A pair of Russian nuclear-capable bombers flew near Alaska Monday night, two U.S. officials told Fox News, coming as close as 100 miles from Kodiak Island -- the first time since President Trump took office that Moscow has sent bombers so close to the U.S.

The two Russian Tu-95 “Bear” bombers flew roughly 280 miles southwest of Elmendorf Air Force Base, within the Air Defense Identification Zone of the United States.

The U.S. Air Force scrambled two F-22 stealth fighter jets and an E-3 airborne early warning plane to intercept the Russian bombers.

They’re not surprising anybody. The Alaskan AD Command can hear those Bears running up those Turbo-props all the way from Kamchatka. Our Raptor pilots might go deaf holding station on them.

It happened way back in 1958 when I was stationed in Alaska at Galena AFB.
We scrambled F-102 Delta Daggers every time some Soviet fighter came in under the radar just to piss us off. We had to get out of our warm beds, put on our mukluks and parkas and get into the 30 below weather until the sob was back in Russia.

It’s in the Russian psyche; their DNA. Much of their stuff is copied from ours, but they put a little artistic flair into their version of the purloined design. Even their weapons are often pleasing in form to look upon. Not exactly a weapon, but their shameless copy of our Space Shuttle had just a few little modifications to the lines of it that made it much more pleasing to the eye. FWIW.

...The U.S. Air Force scrambled two F-22 stealth fighter jets...

A little overkill isn’t it? Seems like they would be more useful in South Korea.

I used to envy the Russians because in Putin they had a leader who put their country first.

Now America has one too! (-:
