Glen Campbell will unveil his final studio album on June 9, six years after being diagnosed with Alzheimers disease.
Called Adiós, the album features 12 classic songs that Campbell loved, but never had the opportunity to record. Among them are Dont Think Twice Its All Right, Everybodys Talkin and title track Adiós, made famous by Linda Ronstadt.
The set, recorded in Nashville shortly after the music legend wrapped his 2011 Goodbye Tour, features guest appearances by Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and Campbells children, Ashley, Shannon and Cal.
Glens abilities to play, sing and remember songs began to rapidly decline after his diagnosis in 2011, Campbells wife, Kim Campbell, told People on Friday. A feeling of urgency grew to get him into the studio one last time to capture what magic was left. It was now or never.
The singer-songwriter hasnt performed live or recorded since 2012.

Many think Glen Campbell may be the greatest guitar player ever, period.
I read they are studying how he can play so well even with advanced Alzheimer’s. The disease doesn’t seem to get in the way of that part of the brain.
Really interesting but sad when we lose an artist this great (and a wonderful guy by all reports) a little at a time.
“Where’s the Playground Susie”....

GLEN CAMPBELL PLAYS THE WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE ON GUITAR (SMOKING INSTRUMENTAL):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUBhE00h9U0
There’s a “must-have” album if I ever saw one.
In one of the latest updates, it was reported that he was no longer able to play the guitar. It probably won’t be too much longer...
Thank you!!!!
That was just awesome!
>>In one of the latest updates, it was reported that he was no longer able to play the guitar. It probably wont be too much longer...<<
Just dang :(
I guess the articles I read were from a while back. At that time his awareness of who was around him and where he was and the like faded in and out but when they handed him a guitar he took off like a rocket.
I hope they learned something important about this damnable disease before it took his skills.
While cared little of his style, I recognized early on what a talent and good man he was. We're losing too many greats in the past few years.
Got to meet him once. He was playing at a convention about 2000. He was dried out at the time and kind of on the humble side.
Besides his fantastic albums and singles, this guy was a session player all through the 60s. He was a member of what was called later, The Wrecking Crew. These were the go-to session players of Phil Specter, Frank Sinatra, etc. etc.
Thank you so much for that link. Talk about a big smile on a Saturday morning. I so identified with him and the Lone Ranger. I didn’t realize he was that good on guitar.
With Glen Campbell it’s impossible to pick one and say it is the “best”, so here is a compliation that probalby has just about everyone’s favorite performance, song, or style of music in it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrtWZiguvuY
“if there ever was an example of too much talent in one man’s body, that would be Glen” - Merle Haggard
I saw Campbell on a Carson rerun a few days ago. He recounted being called in for a Sinatra session. During the session Glenn, in awe of Sinatra, was watching him sing. Sinatra kept turning toward Campbell and looking at him. After the number Sinatra goes over to the control room and says “Who is the faggot playing guitar”? Campbell thought it was funny. On the rerun they bleeped “faggot”.
Thanks for posting.
Ping!
You’re welcome! I thought you’d appreciate.
I feel the same way. Every time I see a thread title with Glen’s name, I cringe...dreading that day :(
From The Wrecking Crew to the present day he gave us so many hits. As a hard rocker in the 60’s I never admitted to my friends that I bought many of GC early albums, anyone who played guitar like he did caught my attention.
