A volley of U.S. cruise missiles had barely been launched into Syria before the Internet filled up with fact-free theories about the real reason for an international crisis.
A popular one on the right-most fringes: The U.S. government actually carried out the chemical weapons massacre in Syria last week — a “false flag” to trick President Trump into retaliating, thus entangling himself in a foreign war.
A slightly more convoluted strain on the left: Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the chemical weapons massacre to help Trump — distracting Americans from an investigation into Trump's campaign ties to Russia by provoking the missile strike.
That theory — evidence-free — was laid out on a small anti-Trump website shortly after the missile strike.
But it went mainstream Friday night, when Lawrence O'Donnell advanced similar speculation on his MSNBC show, “The Last Word.”

They believe that because Trump is a republican, he HAS to start a war.... he’s just ITCHING to do so - that’s why he ran in the first place...

Nonsense. Putin has no desire to start a war with the USA or anyone else who has the ability to hurt him. People said the same thing when Turkey shot down a Russian jet. Now, the Kurdish/SDF force trying to take Raqqa might have reason to worry, as they might serve as a proxy target. With US forces providing air support for the Kurds, that could also be too risky for Putin.
So now the left is in the mode of trying to turn anything Trump does as “Russia” related, because, the line of march REQUIRES keeping the “Russia” thing going 24/7/365 no matter how far from reality they have to reach to do it. They are counting on the sheeple to still just hear “Russia”, “Russia”, Russia” any time Trump’s name is mentioned.

In response to that jet being shot down and the pilot murdered, Russia carpet bombed Turkmon areas of Syria for weeks, causing much suffering. While this pissed the government of Turkey off and satisfied the Russians it didn’t result in war. Russia doesn’t have to do something that will lead to war to hurt us. He could for instance give advanced weapons to the Taliban or return to the old soviet ways of funding terrorist groups that attack westerners. However, since popular opinion in Russia matters he has to do something that he can take credit for which increase the risk of war.
I did not see that so thanks for the info. That is correct, while so many here are chasing down so many rabbit holes over this, the blame is squarely on the Russians when it comes to the present chemical weapons in Syria.
Like so many other things that have happened with Donald Trump, time will prove he was correct once again.
