Before we were into gardening and compost, hubby just ran over all the leaves while mowing. He used to tell me that the leaves needed to stay where they were for nutrients-his big excuse for NEVER raking leaves in the fall or spring. LOL

The topsoil in our yard actually does need to have the
leaves left (& chopped up by driving the mower over them).
Rocky shallow soil.
