Or maybe he has and feels vaguely threatened.
;D
Isn’t that adorable!
We’re getting one of those little pools for our dogs this summer.
LOL! I hope so. :)
I want one of those portable blowup pools they sell at WalMart.
They’re about 3 feet deep by 10 feet wide and I think I could handle that.
[not a swimmer, either but floating sounds awfully relaxing]
Unfortunately, putting it up is problem.
I’m on the side of a mountain and there’s no flat ground anywhere.
;D
I’m only appreciated by a certain, courageous type of man...
:D
Anyone with an elderly dog would appreciate a canine aquatic center for therapy. After the 2011 flood, the creek bed changed and was unsafe for my elderly dog. I wished there was a controlled environment where I could have taken him. He loved the water so much!
Meanwhile, my previous dog was terrified of water. I never forced him into the water or even considered of teaching him to swim when I noticed his fear.
Some dogs take to water, some don't. Swimming lessons? yes, that's stupid.
Pugs have a lot of issues, that’s for sure.
But if you want a dog that ignores you, snorts, farts, and only sheds once a year (all year), it’s the breed for you.
L
I think all that is listed in the AKC breed standard, isn’t it?
;)
Some breeds take to the water and some don’t. Labs and Retrievers will spend every waking moment retrieving toys thrown in if you let them. Doberman’s? Not sure, but if not it wouldn’t be because they’re black :-).
Sure is. Check under “flatulence”.
LOL!
My friend’s rescue Pugs have mostly been basket cases, even for Pugs.
Many is the time she’s had to jump up in the middle of the night to give CPR to one whose trachea collapsed or some other such horror show.
The woman has the patience of a saint.
Dogs have owners, Cats have staff.
You are so right about that!
Here are mine:
Preston...Samoyed...Despised all manner of water, even grooming
Odie...Maltese...Absolutely Fearless, tried to make love with a 200 malamute, and used to ride with me on my Harley...in the rain.
Torey...Border Collie...Liked to swim, but preferred to sit by the piano and sing with me.
Lynn-Dah...Lab/Chow...LOVED the Ocean, could swim, body surf, and dive
Penny...Pit Bull...stepped into the ocean up to her ankles, snorted, and came back out again.
Ours can no longer urinate on his own. We had to learn to “express” him.
You can learn how to do darned near anything by watching YouTube videos.

Even with a human child, they learn the *doggy paddle*, when first learning to swim, right? Time and patience.
Breaks my heart to see a critter suffer and pay the price of stupid humans. That said, and you know how *stuck* we are on a water breed, I'd no more throw a Dobie, Duxie, or a Chihuahua in the deep water. Plain stupid.
In spite of the freezing cold here, our new[er] pup has already been in the water. Not thrown in, going in of her own accord. If it isn't the *webbed feet*, thick, oily coat, and thick, fat insulated skin, Retrievers don't mind the water, cold or not... it's in their DNA. Our Winchester was in the freezing water of the River retrieving ducks/geese until the last day of open season [Nov].
Putting a dog, no matter the breed, who is not adapted to water-life is dumb. I'm sorry this pet died. I blame the owners and the service provider. [Who knew there was such a thing?].
Winnie is so anxious to jump off the duck boat, he has to be tethered ...he can't control his urge to jump in.
Some dogs are smarter than hoomans
Some people shouldn't own dogs; or have children.
My bulldog’s “canine aquatic center” is a $9 kiddie pool from Walmart.. if I tried to put him in anything else he’d sink right to the bottom, and I have enough common sense to know that without paying thirty bucks to find out by watching him die.
I agree it is stupid to put dogs in deep water against their will!!
Remember this thread '12?
Shasta use to go into the pool for a swim but she was an odd Doberman. None of her pups, as far as we knew, ever went in the water.
I have a friend who has a couple of cats ( and dogs) every time I stayed with them a cat would come into the bedroom perch up high and just stare at me. It was creepy!
I figured the cat was wishing he was a tiger or that I was a mouse!
