I have known 6 people, 2 of which are relatives, who work or have worked for the post office. The Post office has been slowly reforming and in the process they are firing people for things they used to let go. There are postal inspectors following deliverers around looking for reasons. One guy was fired because he used to stop and get his haircut at a shop on his route while on the job. There are cameras in the post offices and they watch the workers. They also time everyone to see who are slacking.

BTW, the reforms are working and the post office could probably make a profit if it were no for their huge pension obligations from the past. Now the post office is full of a lot of temp workers some of whom are only guaranteed a job on a yearly basis.

I was told that the postal service no longer requires an exam in order to get a job. It’s obvious to me that these people aren’t even required to be able to read. I’ve had packages left at my apartment for people who live in other buildings. There’s only four buildings in this apartment complex. The buildings are numbered 100, 200, 300, and 400, but the postal employee can’t even match the building number on the package to the appropriate building. I called the postal service to complain both times. And then they wonder why they’re going broke.

Kasich always told about his dad carrying the mail on his back, but I don’t think he meant FLAT on his back.

Here's my hunch:

Drunken mailman is called on the carpet

Drunken mailman claims to have a "disability" covered by the Americans With Disabilities Act

Drunken mailman is given an office job at full pay

Or

Drunken mailman is retired on a 100% disability pension.

“Molitor was booked with having an open container of alcohol”

I didn’t know that LA had an open container offense law, even if the open container was in a vehicle.

“Why did the post office let him drive that mail truck?” Gray asked.

Easy, You are NOT required to ave ANY LICENSE WHATSOEVER to drive a Federally Owned motor Vehicle, this includes Postal Vehicles.

Because, reasons:

#1: Paid up with the right people.
#2: Effin' the right people.
#3: Has dirt/secrets on others in his situation, who have done the same or worse, and are still employed.
#4: Protected by the postal employees union.
#5: All of the above.

Institutionalized corruption is a helluva thing . . .

My former FIL was a mailman and he used to say the PO demands the carriers work a set amount of hours, regardless of whether they need that much time to cover their route. He used to say he could easily have finished his route in half the time, but they weren’t allowed to go home when they were done. As a customer, I’d rather get my mail in the morning rather than wait til 3 or 4 pm just because the mailman has to stretch it out. Shows how much waste there is at the USPS and how they build in slack time.
