Missing man found dead in belly of 23-foot-long python

JAKARTA - A man missing since Sunday (March 26) in Indonesia has been found dead inside the belly of a 7m-long python, according to reports.

Akbar Salubiro, 25, had not been seen since setting off to harvest palm oil in a remote village on the island of Sulawesi.

A search found the giant python sprawled out next to his garden with the 25-year-old’s boots clearly visible in its stomach, according to a report in the Tribun Timur. Villagers then used a large knife to cut open the snake’s belly slowly revealing the father-of-two’s body.

Tribun Timur posted a video of the snake's belly being cut open to it's YouTube page.

The horrifying footage shows the corpse being slowly removed from the killer reptile as the leathery skin is peeled away.

Akbar's neighbour Satriawan said: "He was found in the location of the garden.

"Initially Akbar set out from his home to go to harvest palm. After not returning to his home, people looked for him."

Akbar's wife, Munu, was away at the time and only found out when pictures and video emerged in the news, Tribun Timur said.

Village secretary Salubiro Junaidi said: "People had heard cries from the palm grove the night before Akbar was found in the snake’s stomach.

"When the snake was captured, the boots Akbar was wearing were clearly visible in the stomach of the snake.

"Resident cut open the belly of the snake and Akbar was lifeless."

Reticulated pythons suffocate their victims before swallowing them whole, reports said.

He wasn’t missing, he was where he last was.

And if dog bites man stories are world news these days, are fender benders also newsworthy?

Missing man found dead in belly of 23-foot-long python

This is one of those “six of one, half a dozen of another” situations. I can’t decide if it would have been better to be found alive.

It can be done. For humans its the shoulders that give the snake some trouble. But then after crushing its prey, things do go down easier. We mash our potatoes don’t we?

From the article “found dead”. What? They were surprised he was dead?

I can't tell if the snake swallowed him feet first or head first. I would think it would be easier for the snake to take him feet first. Then he wouldn't have to deal with the shoulders.

I’m not particularly partial to mashed potatoes. I’m more for oven-roasted wedges.

The snake swallowed him feet first, fitting both feet at the same time into it's mouth? I'm having trouble believing this.

But if it's true, then Floridian who tries to import a Burmese python here should be fed to one feet first.

I wish several in congress would disappear in this fashion. There’s certainly enough snakes.

It’s a constrictor. First they kill you then they eat you.

I remember seeing somewhere that after the prey is dead the snake will flex its body around the creature to disarticulate the joints, so it loses its shape - making whatever it is easier to swallow.

I read a story about a woman who owned a python. It stopped eating the rabbits she fed it, so she took it to the vet. She mentioned that it usually coiled at her feet at night when she slept. But lately it would stretch the length of the bed next to her. The vet informed her that it was tired of eating the same thing and was sizing her up. She decided to have it euthanized.

There’s snakes that swallow antelope, horns and all...which looks impossible. You’d think the horns would puncture the snake.

Reportedly this 20-footer died from internal injuries sustained after swallowing an antelope. If the prey in question was a blackbuck, the males can be well over 100 lbs in weight, but not usually higher than 125.
