I never liked the ending of Officer and a Gentleman. Everything up to that point indicated that the Richard Gere character was an amoral person, who had no feelings or caring about anyone but himself. We saw that he treated women terribly. Yet we were supposed to believe at the end that he would sweep Debra Winger off her feet and they were going to live happily ever after. It always seemed like a disconnect to me. Some people are so touched by that ending but it seemed out of place to me.
I know... that was a stupid movie and WOMEN LOVED IT!!!!
I thought “he’s going to bang her in the back seat one last time then disappear”
“Yet we were supposed to believe at the end that he would sweep Debra Winger off her feet and they were going to live happily ever after”
After his honest decent friend hanged himself and he cut him down. He achieved his goal of finishing the class and realized it was empty. In psychology they call it a significant emotional event.
If it helps they probably divorced a few years later when she missed her mom, and he was at sea too long.
Agree about that Officer movie but the truth for me is that I could watch Debra Winger all day and night in any flick.
I was smitten forever by her when she was Wonder Woman’s sister and that is the way that it still is.
Sort of.
In real life, Winger hates Geer.
