Guardrail is defective yet DOT bills dead teen for destruction.
Tell me what is with America and bad roads? We have this problem in West Virginia thought it was just an isolated case can see clearly it's not. Why is it that America has roads that are worse than a Third World Country? This should not be.

Mark Nagi said the bill was sent out due to an error in processing, and that TDOT was very sorry for it. Nagi said Eimers would not have to pay the bill. Probably computer generated. Computers know no compassion and only follow the instructions and guidelines set up by code created by programmers. Now if it was a human that issued the bill, one would have to ask how they thought a dead person was going to pay the bill!!
"That was a mistake," said Nagi. "It never should have happened. We'll take measures to make sure that never happens again."

Why is it that America has roads that are worse than a Third World Country? Why waste infrastructure money on infrastructure?
To: Robert DeLong
"....make sure that never happens again..."
Always empty words.

This is a nation wide problem. Look at the American Center for Justice article on defective guardrails.
You are more likely to be impailed on that guardrail than helping protect you in a crash.

Looked up a number of stories on the accident. None of the stories had any info on how/why the driver came to leave the roadway.

The guardrail didn’t cause the accident.

Guess Obama’s stimulus money went elsewhere.
Like the bocce ball park in Palm Springs that no one wanted, no one uses and has no parking.
Incredibly, it was built with stimulus money earmarked for transportation.
True story.

I don’t know the details of this crash, but I am in insurance claims & pay for guard rails in fatality accidents all the time.

You must have never traveled to a third world country ...
To: BenLurkin
Yes thats correct. But the purpose of a guardrail is to direct a vehicle back onto the highway not impail the driver.
There has been a know defect with these guardrail ends since prior to 2005. The manufacturer has made changes in secret because they know they have an issue. That was discovered by a different manufacturer. All states DOT know of this defect. The manufacturer has settled out of court numerous times.
So while technically correct, the state shares some of the blame.

Because we have to pay practically every foreign country on earth welfare including everyone here who has managed to fall across the border and also multi-generational under achievers who drop a baby every nine months. Oh, don’t forget the Mohair subsidies either.

"Why is it that America has roads that are worse than a Third World Country?"
For the same reason that people elected to the legislatures, State and Federal, suddenly become millionaires.
As the Corb Lund song, "Trouble In The Country", says
"When the money gets big,
People get hurt".

Its not the stripes its the defective crush ends. Instead of absorbing the impact they bend upward usually going straight through he windshield impailing the driver.
Know design defect since 2005.

Somebody please help me here. What is it about the stripes on the guardrail that have to be removed? I dont get it.....thanks I looked up X-LITE end terminal unsafe and this type of picture came up a lot:

So rather than a crushable barrier that slows you down or a rail that starts many feet from the road and gradually bends into the straight section, this just impales your car if you hit it.
