Family Man. Loved G. Smith’s guitar.
Years ago I was given tickets to H&O. I almost didn’t go but my GF wanted to see them. They put on a great show that was tightly choreographed and perfectly timed.
I still get chills when I recall Maneater - they did an extended version featuring saxophone player Charles DeChant - awesome!
Meh. Generic early 80s rock with no particular innovation. Some are fairly catchy. I think my favorite Darryl Hall songs are without John Oates.
Trivia I’m sure you know, but most do not: They are not, nor have ever been, “Hall & Oates.” The only album cover that does not make their first names as prominent as their last names (out of a couple dozen!) doesn’t use any conjunction. It’s just “Darryl HALL John OATES”
Out of Touch (EP Version)
There, fixed it.
CC
“Las Vegas Turnaround” off the same LP.
Abandoned Luncheonette is a GREAT album.

That’s awesome! I’ll save that version for my feelings about Chelsea Clinton running for office (or getting a “humanitarian” award!)
There’s still something really haunting about that Roland CR-78 drum machine pattern in the original version.
You may have liked H & O because they weren’t so much a pop ground as blue-eyed soul. Love them.
I prefer my Daryl Hall without any Oates, he does his best work hanging out with Bob Fripp, though record companies don’t like it and he has a hard time getting it released.
Many of their songs are timeless in that a millennium can hear it for first time and most will like it. ‘You make my dreams come true’ is a nod to doo -whop but many people today love it. Maneater is unique and nothing around that time was or is like it. Some songs are dated but many are not
Awesome!
Their 80s pop songs were just their biggest hits. They put out a lot of stuff in the 70s that I would argue are a lot better crafted musically and more innovative.
Their best tribute to doo wop was “Diddy Doo Wop (I hear the voices)”. Cool track with a weird story behind it. Hall wrote it after he read an article where David Berkowicz said he liked to listen to “Rich Girl”, so he wrote a song from the point of view of a psycho killer who is inspired by doo wop instead.
