We are fortunate that we don’t need snow removal.

Epic Fail Lawn Service (motto: “You get what you pay for!”) also does business as Epic Fail Painting Service and Epic Fail Plumbing Service (”If it ain’t broke, I’ll break it!”). When Epic Fail is on vacation, the subcontractor, Drama Queen Lawn Service, produces results that are artistic, but not, like, mowed or anything obvious like that.

It’s not just the proliferation of pesticide use. It’s also the turn to mono-cropping -— thousands of acres of soy or corn and nothing else. That, and the practice by professional beekeepers to truck their hives around the country to pollenize these crops. It’s really hard on the colonies, and the lack of variety weakens them and makes them vulnerable to parasites and disease.

I like honey bees, they are fun to watch and we need them. Further, I’ve talked to honey producers and there is a problem.

With that said, 100 million seeds is a great idea and very commendable, but it’s only about 7 tons or less. Meaning it will not put a dent in the problem at all. It’s more of a publicity/marketing ploy than it is about honey bees.

Here’s a bit of information about the first honeybees to arrive in America. According to the article, they arrived in Jamestown around 1621.

Reading elsewhere, there are fossils that show a different variety of honeybee that was native to N. America but went extinct.

I thought the honey bee on the box was replaced by “corny”, the high fructose corn syrup mascot!

It's about 15 tons for corn, about 100 pounds for tiny wildflowers seeds.

100 million seeds at 1 million seeds per pound is100 pounds. At 10 pounds per acre, 10 acres. It takes me 2.5 hours to mow 4 acres, so I could spread that seed in about six and one half hours. 100 pounds should fit easily in my tow behind spreader.

You’re the first person who’s mentioned something that I find myself thinking frequently.

Whenever I’m out driving around and I see a beautiful, open piece of land going all unused, I wonder why somebody’s not growing *something* useful or beautiful on it. It seems like such a waste.

Maeterlinck’s ‘Life of the Bee’ is one of the most interesting and beautiful books I’ve read:

Several years ago I saw a convenience store named the Inconvenience Store.
I didn’t stop there. Bad part of town.

Yeah, why do we need them anyway. If you want honey just go to your local Safeway and buy it.

Plus, there are a lot of green immigrants too.

Thank goodness, we are a nation of immigrants.

Bee hives were brought to Jamestown in the 1600s; Horticulture was a big deal for the English settlers there; plant specimen collection and exporting them was popular.

It’s not like the honey bees are dying of starvation ... parasitic mites, disease are big issues with hives.
