This Nor'easter, named Stella, is coming on like a son of a gun! My sidewalks are already indistinguishable in height from the lawn on either side. I spent a lot of Monday preparing to be snowed in: moved up medical appointments to Monday morning, topped up the gas in my car, corrected deficiencies in food staples supplies (shelves were already conspicuously bare in many aisles), laid in a good supply of crickets for my lizards, studied weather reports, and checked on friends.
How have you in the Northeast prepared for Stella? If you stay home, how are you going to pass the time during the blizzard?
LOL. So that’s why there is no Stella Artois left on the shelves. Or bread. Or water. Or TP.
We used to call these storms “weather” and go about our day. Now we have to drink crappy beer, eat breadless sammiches, and ration TP à la Sheryl Crow.
We in Northern California basked in our first 80 degree day of the year. People were all out last night walking with families and dogs taking advantage of the “extra” hour of evening sun. This beautiful sunny skies were a welcome break from the nonstop months of gray gloom and downpours. It’s going down 20 degrees over the next few days with a chance of rain, though — back to normal. Preparation was difficult. Let’s see, I, uh, er...did nothing. ;>)
Manhatran as of 0520
<3 inches
hardly any wind
not really snowing
From what I hear, out-of-state power crews are on the way to help out. There is a chance that they’ll be turned away by union thugs. Happened in NJ & NY right after hurricane Sandy hit.
Yes and what we got here is now is nothing LOL! I was just outside again, this is ridiculous, it’s warm, calm and a little drizzle no “high wind” or “major snow storm”.
Count your blessings. Hope freezing rains routes its ugly self around you.
Once it started snowing here, the roads got covered very quickly. Thank goodness we can all stay home today. I’m going to bake something. Don’t know what just yet! And maybe start planning our vegetable garden!
I am watching a youtube web cam to see if April the Giraffe is ever going to give birth.
Down here in southern Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay. Mixed rain and snow going to rain later this morning. My dog and I are hunkered down. Got plenty of everything except crickets ;)
Obviously there is a new sheriff in town. With even this much slush on the roads, the Obama OPM would've closed DC down for 2-3 days.
MDCGA! (Well, maybe not "A")
I concur. Here in Upstate NY this is called “snowfall”
bear in mind its PI day
It’s raining like heck here on The Jersey Shore.
I’ve got about 5 inches in northern NJ.
Currently I’m listening to my Sony FDR-X3000 action cam clicking every 10 seconds as I record this snowstorm (and A yardstick I put in the yard) for a timelapse. My area is expected to get 18-24 and higher amounts are possible.
Here in northern New Hampshire, it’s called, “good snowmobiling”
We used to just have snow. Now in sissified, nanny state America we find snow so scary we have to name it like it’s something really scary. A nation of drama queens.
Well I look at it in this light...this is only going to be 2 feet of the white stuff as opposed to the 3’ we got on the last one . I have to agree with the Freeper from Michigan who said “We call it weather.” I see it as March going out like a lion...All of these big Nor’easters gives everyone a chance to slow down wether they like it or not...It’s not a problem at all to me or my friends , just another storm ...keep in mind that the beer and liqour stores are never closed during snowstorms and push come to shove we have snowmobiles!
