Winter Storm Stella is going to slam New York City(snowpocalypse)

Get out now while you still have the chance!

A blizzard warning has been issued for New York City and much of the tri-state area beginning at midnight Tuesday as Winter Storm Stella threatens to dump as much as 18 inches of snow.

Whiteout conditions are expected to make travel extremely dangerous and power outages are likely amid crippling wind gusts of 20 to 40 mph, according to AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tom Kines.

New Yorkers stockpile supplies as massive snowstorm looms.

“Travel will be poor at best, if not impossible,” Kines told The Post on Monday. “If you have the option tomorrow of staying put, I would definitely recommend that. And if you try to fly by air tomorrow, forget it — not happening.”

The blizzard warning — which will be in effect for 24 hours — will cover New York City and Long Island as well as Fairfield, Westchester, Rockland, Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Snow will begin around 3 a.m. and continue throughout Tuesday before tapering off in the evening, Kines said.

The city is expected to get at least a foot of snow and 16 to 18 inches could get dumped on western and northwestern areas of the city. Eastern Long Island could be spared with just 6 to 8 inches.

I've never been in NYC during,or shortly after,a major snowstorm but I've been there during and after smaller accumulations.I've found that even small amounts of snow can tie the city in knots.

Yep. Weather Channel thing. Presumably the NY Post has a financial connection to TWC. Almost no one follows TWC lead without a $$$ reason.

And if you try to fly by air tomorrow, forget it —

????? fuggedaboutit! Youse fly by ground only, or I'll break your am fer ya!

Only a New Yorker could make a statement like that. "Fly by air..."?

Just HOW else does one fly if not by air? By the ground, by the deep blue sea? By a Star Trek Transporter?

Apparently Maryland, which has not yet had a measurable snowfall this year, has spent 5/6th of their snow removal budget, and were just debating transfering the remaining money to shore up their school budget deficit.

I think their definition of “successful snow season” is spending 100% of their allocated money.

TWC predicted 2-4 inches of snow for us here in East TN last week. We got nada. I was disappointed.

You are right about that. At the grocery store, everyone was buying enough food to hold out for a month.

But a month from now, they’ll be at the garden center looking at flowers to plant.

“It’s my fault I got fat, but that doesn’t change the fact that i’ll drop dead if i shovel 20 inches!!! :)”

Shoveling snow is dangerous, even for thin people. Many people have heart attacks while shoveling snow.

I’m there at the 1 in 1 Bottle, but I gave it up for Lent. Anyway, it’s raining here.

It’s not the weather service; it’s a Weather Channel thing. I don’t use their names.

“LOL! Wow, talk about good timing, I was just doing a search on this to see if anybody posted it. It seems now it’s going to wimp out, what I’m hearing is it’s going to be rain/snow then rain.”

I sure hope so. I in PA... I can handle six inches... but two FEET? Not to mention if my power goes out, I’m completely screwed... and I don’t mean no Free Republic, I mean no HEAT (and no way to get out to where there IS heat). Lovely.

On the bright side... it’s almost 5:00, and warm enough that the snow is dripping off the roof. Hard to believe a blizzard is supposed to start in a few hours - but you never know. The weather changes here at the drop of a hat.

Sigh.
