The small business owners who rent space inside El Mercadito shopping mall in Memphis offer a bit of everything: jewelry, insurance, cell phones, cowboy boots. Shoppers can play video games, eat at a restaurant or pause at the monument to the Virgin of Guadalupe, which is decorated with Christmas lights.
Most of the shoppers are Mexican immigrants or their children. But business at the Hickory Hill shopping mall has dropped by about 50 percent in the past couple of months as wary immigrants stay close to home, said mall owner Gaspar Perez.
Everything that the president said has affected me, he said.
President Donald Trump's push for increased deportations has spread apprehension among millions of Hispanics living throughout the nation.

If here legally and/or a citizen, then there is absolutely nothing to fear. If you are a lawbreaker by being here as an ILLEGAL Alien - then yes, you should be concerned. Hello...
Daniel Connolly and Kevin McKenzie, USA Today Network wrote this article prejudiced against citizens with hispanic ethnic background.
They make no distinction between legal immigrants or citizens and the illegal immigrants that need to be worried because their illegal actions will not longer be ignored.
Daniel and Kevin, please say “illegal immigrants.”
Say it.
SAY IT.
They have NO fears.
Legal or illegal?
Boot ready?
There are lots of immigrants who got their legal status with the help of fraudulent documents and fraudulent statements who need to be worried.
Obviously wary immigrants = ILLEGAL immigrants.
I don't get it. Why would any immigrant be "wary", just going about their daily business?
Immigrants are legal residents who have been welcomed by our nation's government. They have nothing to fear from ICE, so what is this reporter talking about?
Good...illegals should get the hell out of Tennessee, and take the moslems with you.
I wish these #fakenewsies would be a little more specific. Are they talking about immigrants or invading illegal alien piñata bashers?
I have a small construction business which has struggled for a long time, competing with illegals in the building trades. Over the last couple of months, our phone has gotten busier and busier.
We've changed a few things with our advertising, but I can't help thinking that our increased traffic may also be due to there being fewer illegals in the local labor market.
Illegal aliens SHOULD be worried.
They broke in.
Just as a burglar is worried when caught in some one else’s house.
Hahahahaha. Had to create an account just because I lived in Hickory Hill neighborhood almost 30 years ago and thus get an extra personal chuckle out of how the C-A is deliberately blaming Trump for something done long ago. They can talk about 50% fewer people in the last two months, but that’s glossing over the massive reduction in traffic when the neighborhood’s descent happened in the 90s-00s. It’s like MSNBC losing half their viewers if one guy goes out to eat (haha).
The problem was the annexation by the city of Memphis; the neighborhood became a crime-ridden cesspool just like every other place in the city limits that aren’t named Graceland or two blocks of Beale St. The house I lived in, like many others, now have bars on the windows. This would have been absurd in those days.
As usual, Memphis ranks high in per capita violent crime:

In short, the problems in Hickory Hill started long before DJT. The C-A would never admit that the city is the problem and has been for a long time. Maybe the Memphis cop isn’t selling seized drugs on CB radio across the river anymore. It wasn’t a sting, just additional income.
