While physicist Stephen Hawking is optimistic about the future, he warned in an interview published Tuesday that, with the pace of technological advancement, humans must gain control over their aggressive instincts in order to survive.
The famed English scientist told The Times that the issue lies in the instincts humanity has honed to survive so far.
Since civilization began, aggression has been useful inasmuch as it has definite survival advantages, he told the British newspaper. It is hard-wired into our genes by Darwinian evolution. Now, however, technology has advanced at such a pace that this aggression may destroy us all by nuclear or biological war. We need to control this inherited instinct by our logic and reason.
He suggested that the creation of a world government might be necessary to ensure that humanity is addressing high-impact challenges, such as climate change and the rise of artificial intelligence.
We need to be quicker to identify such threats and act before they get out of control. This might mean some form of world government, Hawking said. But that might become a tyranny.

The disease has affected his mind. It would be better if he would spend all day contemplating black holes than trying to get a world government that would take money from producers and give it to slackers.

This just proves some people can be brilliant about some things and completely stupid about others.
Human nature is human nature. It developed as a way to survive. That includes being aggressive at times (since being passives leads to extinction)
And anytime anyone talks about climate change as if man has any control over it, they move from the informed side of the ledger to the ignorant side.
Humans are the only species that have managed to adapt and survive in almost every environment found on earth (from frozen north, to deserts, to high elevations.
If the climate does change, man kind will adapt and survive.
If we had a one world government, I think the odds of mans surviving would go down not up.
Stephen Hawkins wants a world government? And he is supposed to be a smart man? I know I’m not that smart and a teen, but no world government for me....
Another mind-numbed member of the walking army of ‘globalists’.
This is Star Trek 101.
So a physicist is an expert on “everything”. What a presumptuous nut.
The only time they even think of it is after they find themselves designing rockets and atomic bombs for Hitler, and does THAT slow them down any? Hell no. They just change their stripes for us and continue down the path to oblivion.
But since, he insists, the earth is an inconsequential speck on the edge of a totally meaningless universe, why does he care?
But if he contemplated black holes in the presence of John Wiley Price, he might be accused of racism and told to seek out the white holes.
