I watched 5 minutes of the mock debate with the actors at NYU.  They were very skillful actors, and were able to portray the gender switching quite well, I thought.

Here's my thinking:

• With the gender switching, the messages sounded more or less the same.  A Martian arriving from outer space would have interpreted the words of each candidate to mean that they both favored "creating jobs".
  
  
• When we view Trump and Hillary in a debate, 80% of what we see and feel is based on the character of the person we've already come to know.  If you take the person's character and history out of the picture, the debate becomes merely two people acting out the words.  It's just not the same experience at all.
  
  
• I suppose the same thing happens at the movies.  The actor we know as Gregory Peck, for example, deeply influences our perception of the person Peck is portraying.  If you were to put Peck in a wimpy role, the movie would not succeed.

So I came away believing (more strongly) that the gender doesn't really matter.

I came away believing that gender matters to a bizarre degree, to the left. They’ll agree with the female over the male, period. And, when subjected to role reversal with exactly the same debate points, even when including visual cues, mannerisms and verbal tone, they still dislike the male and prefer the female, to their obvious discomfort. It’s all gender all the time, nothing but gender. For the left.
