McDonald's has a traffic problem and its executives know it. Now they have a plan they think will turn it around.

The company lost more than 500 million customers to close competitors since 2012, Chris Kempczinski, McDonald's USA President told investors gathered in Chicago Wednesday.

SO true, if you are going to eat healthy, you don’t do to Mc’D’s.

Focus on what you are. A hamburger place and make them edible.

Chicken McNuggets - all vegetarian.

Beef patties ...

What is agita? Is that a sickness induced by eating McDonalds? Have you ever had phlegm right after eating McDonals where you have to constantly clear your throat? That can’t be good for you.

Just reading this piece and I know that their scheme will fail, and badly. Why? Because instead of talking about their product in terms other than “menu items”, the rest of it was administrative.

Who here goes to a hamburger joint because it has a better administration?

“My opinion is that the media is the main
supporter of healthy eating. We’re certainly
not hearing it from our customers.”
— Andrew Puzder, CEO of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.

Puzder is obviously somebody who knows a thing or two about running a hamburger joint. Under his leadership, his business added a lot of market share.

Ironically, McDonald’s came out with its best idea in a long time, the Grand Mac hamburger. A bigger Big Mac. But they did so with minimal fanfare, in only two markets. How in the world can they judge how well it is received if nobody knows about it?

And at the same time, the Wendy’s chain is replacing a lot of employees with robots. They are staying above the curve.

It would be nice if they only hired English speaking American citizens. I shouldn’t have to repeat myself when placing an order.

“Stop tailoring the menu to vegans and hipsters that never even set foot in your stores!”

You mean like the way JC Penney tailored their stores to fashion-forward psychedelic queers?

Heck yeah, bring back beef tallow! They had one of the healthiest and tastiest fats and then they bent to the pressure from the veggie lobby.

McD’s has problems, its fallen far from where it once was... but what I shake my head at again and again is that they keep trying to upscale their menu.... and it NEVER works.... Arch Deluxe anyone?

I mean how many upscale burger attempts have they had in the last 30 years, and none of them stick.

Need to make your existing product better, rather than trying to introduce new “upscale” things... because no one thinking UPSCALE will ever think McD’s.

Its Quick Service.. you need consistent quality and good customer experience. Chick Fil A by far dominates both of these, and they are very successful but you never hear them talk about, he we need a more upscale chicken sandwich.

McD’s has done some short sighted things.. the McCafe concept... which can work in some instances, is a stupid thing system wide. The move away from kids, dumb... etc et.

Service needs improved across the chain and quality certainly needs attention as well... Consistency on both fronts could be better. BK has a better burger, WHEN ITS GOOD, but the customer experience across its chain is utterly inconsistent... While McD’s is more consistent, its certainly not a great experience...

McD’s isn’t going anywhere, but it does need a lot of work

Once people have developed a taste for Chick Fil A, Taco bells, BK or even convenient store pizza they are going to be hard to win back.

What? You don’t enjoy people essentially shouting their conversation to each other which includes liberal usage of the f-word and other foul language.

Gee, you appear to lack street cred.

I fry some potatoes in beef tallow at home and the kids think it is some sort of alien ambrosia food! You can buy it on amazon and you don’t have to use much, just sauté some frozen fries or fresh cut potatoes and they come out great.

Tallow.

At least make it an option for those who, supposedly, don't care about their health. I'm sure some boomers would return just to get a taste of the good ole days.

When I go to a restaurant I can order a *wonderful* burger for $7-8, it’ll be big, juicy, have good toppings and is generally all I need. I’ll have water to drink and no fries. In contrast, at McD’s, I can buy “just the burger” for less but it is inferior in quality and quantity. I don’t want the “meal” option either. As they don’t want to make a quality burger, having the option of fries and pop, that would end up at $10+ they don’t bother. They don’t think this is in their “low cost fast food” market. So they insist on crap burger + fries + pop for $7-8. People don’t want that crap anymore.

They should try making a really good burger for $8 and let the customer “order up” discounted fries and pop separately. This would make far more sense. As they don’t have this I rarely ever go there anymore.

Who here wants to pool our resources and open a whole chain of robotic controlled restaurants?
I am a computer systems engineer.
Who has fast food industry experience? (purchasing, refrigeration, sales, hardware)?

There is a convenience store chain around me, Wawa, that has had deli counter ordering kiosks for twenty years. Complete success. I’ve heard rumors they are about to start replacing the deli counter workers with robots. They are big enough to create the infrastructure needed.

I’ve seen several other stores try it, but they also took counter orders, and everyone just walked by the kiosk. You either need to make it the only way to order, or give a discount for ordering at the kiosk. These other stores’ kiosks failed expensively.
