"Pretty, but not very solid. Cement walls could be higher/more reliable. C'mon dam, you had one job."--Noah Lantz, one star

"I here the spillway is great right now for white water rafting. Watch out for street poles down stream though"--David Lansing, five stars

"I give this dam 5 stars, because it's a shining beacon of the kind of California doctrine that they want for the rest of the country!"--Richard Howell, five stars

"Dam does a great job at showcasing American ingenuity, the advances we have collectively made in water management, materials science, and our fundamentally negligent attitudes towards maintenance and risk-assessment.

I took off 1 star due to its inability to, you know, hold back water and prevent critical flooding."--Richard Mackie, four stars.

It's hard to tell what's going to happen because there is good rock (there are technical terms that I forgot) and bad rock. I don't have any idea if they ever identified areas of each of those properties in order to make any prediction. Time will tell.

Judging from your photo though, it sure looks like BAD rock upstream! That water must be rotating in there like a coal machine.

That is not considered a major issue, because that area is solid rock. There will be some erosion, but what they were worried about is more of the spillway breaking off, if that breakage makes it to the top, it could take out the spillway intake, allowing way too much water to come through.

Just like erosion on the emergency spillway isn’t considered a major problem, EXCEPT that the erosion is undercutting the 30-foot concrete wall, and if that wall falls, way too much water will escape too quickly. However, even then they don’t think the entire dam would fail, because it would only erode down to the bedrock.

First video of the day showed up on YT. Best quote in it is “it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do”. I kid you not.
