I think this was around 1986 (or so)... when the nice rap was being taken over by the (future gansta rap) crap we see today..
This isn't bout rap, or any specific genre, but by users/people taking advantage of the 1st amendment.
I think many here know what I am talking about.. but I also think many here are too young to remember before rap was even invented :p
(not just about rap, but the degradation of not only music, but social norms in general).
btw, I prefer classical :D
Blondie - rapture. the first real rap song (the last part)
I was hoping for ‘Rapping with Rodney” Rodney Dangerfield
Moved quickly FROM this (1989): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy4FXhkm6Nw
Anyway, just ranting.. From my childhood (1970) until now... I can’t even imagine what my father went through.. or even bigger, what his father may have gone through between then and now ;/
May as well list links .. loved Rodney :D
I recognize the music on elevators now.
ps. Get off my lawn

“I recognize the music on elevators now.”
And the grocery store. Ugh.
You are mistaken, elevator music MUST be Enigma or Yngve Malsteen ;D
OH.. or Enya... Prefer her over the other 2

I think this was around 1987, or so.. Even in my younger and stupider age (yes, new word).. I started getting the heck away from that ‘music’.
And again, make sure your kids (up to about 20yo) are nowhere near your city or town if/when you play/watch this...
Surprisingly coherent from the group that brought you:
Me love you long time.
Never heard this before today. Not my cup of tea. Mostly good sentiment.
Oh man, listened to their other crap. It’s totally revolting.
when tipper gore made her attempt to censor lyrics, the pendulum swung to the utterly nasty... run dmc never had a chance after that.
“Me love you long time” was common phrase from Vietnamese prostitutes during ‘nam.. :/
and yes, their ‘music’ gets worse over time.... I believe this group, and their court cases, which they won in Florida, where the start of the ‘openness’ of what we have today that includes all of the sex, drugs, and violence.. Was cool at the time; now it is destruction of society.
Joe Strummer was rappin’ with the Clash, before him it was Dylan. Nothing new under the sun.
Very nice... I am sure my dad would have loved these :)
I have always thought that Ernest T. Bass from the “Andy Griffith Show” was the original rapper. There is one episode in which he drums on a kerosene can while chanting a weird poem.
Given the era, it was probably intended to be a spoof of beat poetry.
If I remember correctly, Run DMC combined rap to rock and brought it to populace.. (mixed with Arosmith, by request.. and they said OK.. good idea)..
Run DMC was good group.. in bad beighborhood (L.A.)
