Karen Goode, of San Antonio, is suing for $1,000,000 after she said rice and beans she ate at Popeyes in spring 2015 were infested with flesh-eating worms, according to KDAF.
In the lawsuit filed in Bexar County, Goode's attorney, Patrick Stolmeier, argues the franchisee, Z&H Foods, should have known about the screwworms and never served the tainted food to customers.
He also described what Goode allegedly endured after consuming the screwworms:
"Plaintiff purchased rice and beans from Defendants' restaurant that contained flesh eating New World Screwworms, and Plaintiff unknowingly ingested the flesh eating screwworms. The flesh eating screwworms entered Plaintiff's digestive track, laid eggs which embedded in the interior lining of Plaintiff's small intestine, and when hatched, infested Plaintiff's body and began to eat Plaintiff alive from the inside-out."

Popeye’s is good- this lawsuit is bogus.
After reading some of the comments regarding how one gets infected it seems to me the lawyer, plaintiff and screwworm are all parasites
I think she was hoping for the old “pay me off with a settlement or else I will plant my bogus story all over the internet and cause you to lose millions of dollars in sales” jackpot.
Shakedown ala Jesse Jackson.
Would really like to see her prove they only could have come from her Popeyes meal.
I need to find some of those fat eating screwworms and let them have their fill for a while then kill them when I’m back to my fit weight again.
“Father of Tesla driver: ‘In another vehicle she would have been alive’”
“There is no doubt Casey Speckman was drunk when she crashed her boss’ Tesla in a fiery, explosive wreck that killed him and herself.
“...
“Alfred Finnell Jr., 81, was driving behind the Tesla and saw the crash. The vehicle sped right by him.
“It passed me like a flash,” Finnell told the Star in a telephone interview. “It hit that curb and plowed into that tree.”
“Finnell stopped his vehicle near the White Castle driveway. The Tesla had spun around the tree and into the garage.
“...
“Jon Speckman met with the Star on Friday at the downtown office of his attorney. Speckman said he wants the public to know that there was more to the deadly crash than how many drinks his daughter consumed that night.”
Were the screwworms driving the Tesla? Or did they eat the control electronics from the inside out and cause the crash?
Obviously Popeye’s is guilty, they have the deepest pockets.
Give me the Isopod platter with roly polys, a side of screwworms and some hissing cockroaches.
Order the screw worms extra spicy,
Popeye’s makes some very, very tasty red beans and rice. Best thing on their menu. Not good enough to get screw-worms, though. Well...maybe if I’m really hungry.
Someone with a BAC that high shouldn’t be operating a toaster, let alone a powerful vehicle.
Yes
Reminds me of the files in Bug’s Life or Antz, whichever, asking for the Poo Poo platter”!
BS...prove they were in the rice and beans...and not in your house.
How come she’s the only one who got sick?
and the woman has proven that the screw worm larvae were in the rice how? How would she know WHICH MEAL had the larvae? I’m sure it would take weeks for the larvae to even hatch and begin doing damage- How did she determine that a meal she ate weeks before was the one that had the worms?
Is this an old SNL script?
Right. Food can be mishandled at any point in the supply chain. Sure, a Popeye's franchise could have messed up. But most contamination occurs after the customer walks out of the store. Unless other Popeye's customers at the same franchise were affected, there's no case.
