Designer Andre Soriano, who immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines, is a big fan of the new president.
The designer behind Joy Villa's "Make America Great Again" pro-Trump Grammys gown, Filipino immigrant Andre Soriano, tells THR that he is supportive of the new president despite his controversial immigration ban, and that the message of the dress was one of positivity.
"Its more so about love," he said of the red, white and blue gown. "We all live on this planet. Ive never been in the political area. However, its just so crazy that people are getting beat up because they voted for Trump, or this and that, someone wants to bomb the White House....I am an American, I moved here from the Philippines and I highly believed in the trueness of what this country can bring. Its about bringing people together, thats the message."
Soriano skirted questions regarding the meat of his political beliefs, but said he is proud American and believes that he is an example of the American Dream. He was first discovered on Rihanna's Bravo reality show, Styled to Rock, and launched his label in San Diego in 2013, selling ready-to-wear and red carpet looks online only. He is a naturalized citizen.
"There are a lot of people that are in power that really misconstrued what this country stands for," he said. "I love this country. Im from the Philippine islands, I am a proud American. I really love this country. I am a minority, Joy is black. America is about immigrants."

He added of his relationship with Villa, "Weve been working since the orange gown she wore two years ago, the fence dress. My husband is a contractor and we went to Home Depot and I saw that fabric .the look went viral."

Soriano has also outfitted Macy Gray, Courtney Love and Bai Long for red carpet events, but says he has a special relationship with Villa.
"I always channel Joys music as a designer were both artists and I love her so dearly," said Soriano. "She is one of the people on this planet that really promotes love. We need to move this country forward, and we believe its time to promote love. We only live once, and we need to promote love. We have one president now who is going to do the best thing for planet America."
As for the inspiration behind the pro-Trump dress, he says, "I heard that somebody wanted to bomb the White House. And then I saw the Womens March... Joy Villa is all about love with her music. Im like Joy, We have to make a statement on what is right for our country, of what we believe in, for the constitution."
A LEGAL immigtant. The lying left keeps trying to conflate this issue of LEGAL and illegal immigration. Happily, a lot of people have caught on.
I think I will buy Joy Villa’s album “I Make the Static” tonight. Only $5 on Amazon.
Anyone with me?
Some of my nurses are legal immigrant Filipinas.
Right now her album is #2857 on Amazon. Let’s move it up a few hundred notches.
I am tired of all the nudity. Why don’t they just take all their clothes off and become total nudists. Would save them a lot of money.
Trump’s own wife is a LEGAL immigrant!
Thank you Andre and welcome to America. Joy, girl you have courage
Maybe you should wait a few days to see if she gets turned by the Leftwing thugs.
Don’t matter she made a visual statement and THATS WHAT the people will remember.....she stole the political hacks...THUNDER!!!!! That’s all that matters!!!
His husband?
I’ve been wondering where these people were, the rebels, the ones who don’t take orders from any damn mob of angry assholes! Hope to see more of this. They’ve got BALLS!
Two of my best friends’ wives are LEGAL immigrants, as was one of my former roommates. Yeah, he turned out to be a jerk, but a productive and law abiding jerk.
They are all now US citizens, too. They took the time and money to make that happen. Those type of people ADD to our society.
Will also acknowledge (esp. after having seen it) that the process for immigrating here legally is overly complex and expensive. (Yes, this should be fixed.)
They went through it anyway. The cheaters’ actions actually are an insult to them. They believe this, too.
Have nothing but respect and support for those who come here legally.
Pretty sure we agree about that and the converse. Just a hunch.
“His husband”?
I had the same ????.
