... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 am Sunday to 1 PM EST Monday...

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect from 7 am Sunday to 1 PM EST Monday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Locations... Onondaga... Madison... Oneida... Chenango... Otsego... Delaware counties in central NY.

* Hazard types... heavy snow and brief periods of sleet.

* Accumulations... 10 to 14 inches of snow.

* Timing... snow... mixed at times with sleet will move in Sunday morning and eventually change to all snow Sunday afternoon. The snow may be heavy at times Sunday afternoon through Monday morning before winding down Monday afternoon. Strong north winds will develop Sunday night and Monday causing blowing and drifting snow.

* Impacts... the heavy snow will make travel very dangerous. Roads will become snow covered and slippery. Expect white out conditions in open areas due to strong winds and blowing snow. Scattered power outages also will be possible.

* Winds... southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* Temperatures... in the upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means heavy snow is expected or occurring. Heavy snow is forecast that will make travel very dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

NY ping.

This storm looks to be coming from out west as opposed to a nor’easter.

Nevertheless, as it pulls off the coast to the east of us, lake effect is also very likely to follow on Tues as it always does when a low is positioned off the coast.

When I lived there you would still go get around with 10-14 inches of snow. And there was no radar maps or 24 hour weather reports to give warning. Glad I moved.

Thanks for the info. I live in Oneida County...Rome, NY. We’ve had snow every day this week. More to come I see.

I grew up there as you know. Our school district didn’t even think about closing unless it was 8” or greater.

My wife is from Norwich. Her father had a cabin on Chenango lake.

I just shoveled my roof off this morning from Thursday’s storm. Now we are going to get hit again tomorrow but the worst of it will be in the Boston, MA to Portland, ME area as the storm will really blow up around the 40/70 benchmark and move into the Gulf of Maine.
