Officials in Florida say an Orlando police officer who arrested a man after mistaking doughnut glaze for meth has been disciplined.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Cpl. Shelby Riggs-Hopkins was given a written reprimand for making an improper arrest.
An internal affairs report released Thursday by the Orlando Police Department found no evidence she acted in bad faith. The report says the department never trained its officers to use the department-issued roadside drug tests.
Daniel Rushing was arrested in December 2015 when Riggs-Hopkins spotted flakes of glaze on his floorboard and thought they were pieces of crystal methamphetamine. Rushing told officers it was likely sugar from Krispy Kreme doughnuts he'd eaten but roadside drug tests were positive for the illegal substance.
A state crime lab test cleared Rushing several weeks later, and charges were dropped.
It is basically some little baggies with reactants. There is a logic tree that you follow that takes you through different steps to get to a result. When the kit is used the bags should be preserved as evidence, along with the rest of the untested sample, according to an evidence collection procedure. The police have to maintain a chain of custody.
A statement from my department explains that they have not trained me to determine male vs female, and that therefore I did not post in bad faith. :-)
Until proven different, I would guess that she is an Affirmative Action.
You missed the part that she is carrying a loaded pistol [firearm]on her hip. That, to me, is the dangerous part.
Shelby can be a man's name, as in the case of the late Shelby Foote, who was bearded when I met him about 30 years ago.

I wonder if they gave him his lawyer and money back.
The Officer? should have to spend hour for hour that he spent in jail.
But on the bright side, he wasn’t killed, so I guess that he count his blessings.
Never know where a little glaze might harden.
Only when someone in a position of authority or that is politically connected does it. You do the same thing they do and use the same excuse they use and see what happens.
thanks. so there probably could have been drugs in the car, just not meth?
As the “sample” takes you down the logic tree you should end up
with at least the family of drugs involved. Residue like that, even if it was meth, would not make for a very strong case. You need paraphernalia, and decent amounts to get anywhere. This whole things sounds like a complete screwup.
Drug War stupidity knows no color bar:
Affirmative Action included sex; to wit} females, as well as race.
So why the need to guess?
Beats me.
To all who think think this is funny. You wouldn’t think so if it happened to you The cop should be fried for gross stupidity.
