I’m surprised actors such as Rob Reiner were part of a deal that didn’t pay off royalties in a proper manner. As the son of Mr. Sit-Com., Carl Reiner, you’d think Rob would know to hire a good money manager. Sometimes, when you do a lot of different jobs, you just don’t pay close attention to getting all the i’s dotted and the t’s crossed.
I think it’s tied to acquisition and changing ownership. He probably has a fine contract 30 years ago, but that was originally with Embassy Pictures who got bought by CocaCola the next year then later bought by Dino DeLaurentis, and somewhere along the line Vivendi got a hold of the movie and they’re ran it through Studio Canal, and who the heck knows who owns the merch which is really where the money is at for this movie. Even a good money manager is going to have a hard time tracking all that.
