FReeper fave Blazing Saddles is airing tonight on Turner Classic Movies at 10:30 p.m. EST.

This FR thread from 2015 posited that Blazing Saddles could not be made today due to political correctness.

Fortunately in 1974 Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, Alex Karras, et al, were still free to make this comedy classic.

The showing of Blazing Saddles is part of TCM's 31 Days of Oscar A to Z which started Wednesday.

TCM airs films unedited, so all the jokes should be heard/seen.

At times I could go for 1874 except as as bad as my eyes were before LASIK, I wouldn’t have much of a life.

The first time I saw it was at a mall mini-theater. I was working an odd shift, so went to a weekday matinee. When I sat down, I was the only person there.

Just before the movie started, two young black guys came in and sat down right behind me. One of them didn’t get the joke and was quite belligerent every time a certain term was used. So, I sat there for the entire movie trying not to laugh. I think I strained something.

Actually I ought to try to persuade you to watch, so here goes.

Blazing Saddles is a study of the socio-ethos of the Old West as seen through the lens of post-civil rights era American race relations.

TCM never cuts movies. it’s one of the few channels I actually watch anymore.

"I have never seen this movie nor do I intend to tonight. I am simply not into comedic movies, period."

I used to watch Blazing Saddles, Animal House, and any other sophomoric flick I could find. No longed do I. Age seems to have tempered what I used to think as funny.

TCM runs a lot of great stuff.

The educational and comedic shorts are usually good.

It won’t be cut. Rated TV-MA

I watched “A Clockwork Orange” last summer and nothing was cut. I was a bit surprised.

At the time, Blazing Saddles was liberal.

Brooks was/is a huge lefty.

The best was yet to come...

Olsen Johnson: [after Gabby Johnson's speech] "Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to Gabby Johnson for stating what needed to be said. I am particulary glad that these lovely children are here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed the courage little seen in this day and age."
