Four people were stabbed or shot Tuesday in the heart of Hollywood's tourist mecca, where one person is dead in an officer-involved shooting.

Several streets in the area around Sunset Boulevard, Ivar Avenue and North Cahuenga Boulevard will remain closed Tuesday afternoon, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im. Two people have reportedly been taken into custody.

Many moons ago, when I lived in the LA Area, I drove down Sunset Blvd. just to see what all the buzz was about.

My reaction then was the barroom scene from Star Wars: a hive of scum and villainy. What, specifically, is at Sunset and Ivar?

Hula Snackbar at work again?

I think you are being prejudiced against dancers. I have always heard that they are tourist greeters and say, "Aloha Snack-bar?" to help you find a place to eat.

The L.A. Film School and a Jack in The Box on the north side of Sunset, and a dome shaped theater on the south side (I forget the name).

Not much for tourists there.

I’m in that area every so often. Yes, it is right across the street from Amoeba Records, catacorner from CNN. It is very scary and lots of crazies in the area. A couple of blocks from Hollywood/Vine.

This is an area that is still rough but lots of high rises coming in and in direct conflict with the roughness. Homelessness, drugs, mental illness abound. Can’t say that I’m surprised. Prayers to those.

Amoeba is still in business but that lot has been sold and will soon have a high rise on it. Amoeba will be no more at some point in the future. Don’t think they have rights to occupy that retail space on the first floor (plus it’s hella valuable).

Kenneth is still looking for the frequency.

You do know that the guy that decked Rather, ended up killing a staffer at NBC, iirc.

And, he out on parole.

So, maybe he did go West.

When we had company visiting when we lived inSo Cal, I used to drop them off at Mann’s Chinese Theater to see the handprints/footprints. I would circle the block a few times and then pick them up and we would leave. After about 2000, I never wanted to park in that area.....way too many creepy people wandering around.

Oh, they are in business. Great store. But I heard they were moving and I haven’t been in a while.

I love that sushi place near there where the food travels around the room on a little track.

Cinerama Dome. A movie there is 22.00 USD. Amoeba and Jack in the Crack are on the same block. I live a 10 minute walk away. I stay indoors mostly.

The L.A. Film School and a Jack in The Box on the north side of Sunset, and a dome shaped theater on the south side (I forget the name).

The theater is the Cinerama Dome. It was built with the intention of showing films screened in the Cinerama format, which involved a curved screen and multiple projectors, but that format had long fallen out of vogue when the theater opened in 1963.

Movies that I have watched at the Cinerama Dome include It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, which I saw in early 1964, The Doors, which I saw in 1991, and The Wizard of Oz, which I watched a year later.

Right. The Cinerama Dome. It’s been so long, I’d forgotten the name.

I lived in and around Hollywood for over twenty years, but moved to Texas 11 years ago.

I saw Grand Prix there when it came out in 1966. Now that was a perfect movie to see at the Dome. OMG. 70mm - multiple cameras. . . . and the sound of the BRM's, Lotus' and Ferrari's WOW.

saw Alien there to when it came out - another WOW.

You know, I saw The Exorcist in Hollywood in 73, but I don’t remember seeing it at the Cinerama Dome.

Did it play at multiple Hollywood theaters when it was released? Maybe I saw it at the Dome and totally forgot.
