Data from the last seismic survey done in the ANWR in the early 1980s suggest the region potentially contains some ten billion barrels of recoverable oil, says Houseknechtenough to meet U.S. demand for about a year and a half. But the uncertainty is large. In 2002, estimates of the recoverable oil in the vast National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPRA), to the west of Prudhoe Bay, were also more than ten billion barrels. That estimate fell by 90 percent in 2010 after exploratory wells found mostly gas.
What Obama's Drilling Bans Mean for Alaska and the Arctic
Alaska is screwed, because the only reason you would drill for oil in the north sea is because everywhere else in America is closed to drilling.
Prudho bay was a scam to make drilling so hard to accomplish that nobody could make money at it. Nobody except Americans that is...
Anwr nor Anwar, got it. The ban needs to be lifted just to piss of Obama if no other reason.
They always pronounce it “Anwar” on the news too. As a result, I always wondered when Sadat got a wildlife refuge in Alaska (where the drill site is nowhere near, IIRC) named after him.
Speaking of lifting bans, how about lifting the Barbara Boxer memorial ban on incandescent light bulbs. It was always my opinion this that this moronic midget made lots of dough by first investing in companies that made CFL’s just before the ban was passed.
So maybe that wouldn’t make her moronic, would it? Okay, just enormously corrupt and, as a result, richer.
Drill, baby, drill!
It most certainly is. I worked in Prudhoe/Harrison bays in the summer of '84 on a seismic boat. We were shooting lines for Texaco who, along with a bunch of other oil companies, had just lost their ass on a venture they called "Mukluk". It was full of promise from seismic data from that area late 70's - early 80's, but came up a big dry hole.
