The Department of Homeland Security has asked U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan, a former longtime Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, to step down from his post.
News of his departure, expected within a month, comes as the Trump administration moves toward tougher enforcement of immigration laws.
Two sources familiar with Morgan's departure told Reuters that he held a morning phone call with employees to say that he was not resigning but had been asked to leave by the Trump administration.
Morgan's ouster also comes the day after President Donald Trump announced a broad plan to crack down on border security, including directing the construction of a wall along the border with Mexico.

I am assuming Trump at least had a conversation with him and there was a lack of agreement. To fire him just because the union doesn't like him is not a smart move. The union has hated him since day one because he came from outside BP. It isn't like promoting from within has worked always worked out. The stink on David Aguilar from all sorts of ethics matters was really thick.
None of this is really important. What is important is that the incoming guy will take care of business and be able to manage the Patrol's announced expansion.
Sheriff Joe is a sentimental who has served his country with distinction. He is, however, getting a little long in the tooth. Sheriff Clark would be a great choice.
Supporting Amnesty rates firing.
USCIS still needs to take care of our legal immigrants and help them on their path to citizenship.
Sheriff Clark?
YES SHERIFF CLARK!!!!!
Got an email from Sheriff Clark today and it looks as if he is considering a Senate run. Wondering if Trump didn’t select him for a role in his administration.
Sheriff Joe is 86.
Might have been a vetting issue.
Trump is a strategic thinker. Go after vulnerable senate seats in 2018, with Laura Ingraham in VA and David Clark in WI as the spearhead. Winning is contagious!
President Trump resigns after only 7 days in office.
He said everything is done already.
The wall is built, Obamacare repealed, etc.
and America is Great Again!
Really!!
Get a grip. Trump needs Sessions in place first then he can have the DOJ reverse their position on the DAPA suit and allow Judge Hanan to declare that DAPA was unconstitutionally implemented.
Once that has been done, (and it will be swift), then DACA can be stopped and rescinded by arguing that DACA was made of of the same cloth.
That allows the INS to rescind all work permits and temporary authorization to remain in the U.S. This also gives the INS a database of “Dreamers” to determine on an individual basis if some will be allowed to remain in the U.S. There maybe some that should be allowed to stay for humanitarian reasons.
