Ok so I dont own freerepublic only Jim does. But we support it. Can there be an official report why on one of the most important days of crossing the finish line FR was down? Can that be explained please? Maybe we need to hold a special fundraiser to have a alternative data site and professional server managers that can handle contingency issues? This is by no means a criticism of Jim. But it was like being locked out of our own celebration at the club we belong.
See my post 158. What you got was what I call “the defining” page on FR. Almost every group has one. I run some historical pages and I have one - I didn’t create it, it just showed up explaining what the page is. I know it’s confusing.
I didn’t think it was a deliberate attack. I simply thought the server got overloaded. Gee, it was really no big deal to me.
At least we don’t know the identity of the nasty folks here so we can’t plot revenge, lol.
Exactly! Phew, it would be Lord of the Flies and Freaks if we all knew each other’s real names.
I saw 1 message at FB about the site being down from the webmaster.
One maybe two, maybe, all the others were about whens it coming back up etc and basically useless BS
People wanted a progress report and they didn’t get one.
Yes, that is why I went to Facebook to find out what was going on, but couldn’t post anything.
I don’t do Facebook, so don’t know what you are talking about.
Well, some people are just never happy.
Didn’t notice it was addressed to you
Oh my Lord.
My sympathies, empathy, prayers and love to you!
Sure puts it all into perspective.
I’d just like a site where I could go to get some idea of what happened. Was it a mechanical problem or a hack? I just wasn’t sure whether something had gone haywire at my end or if the problem was out in California. Any of my other bookmarked sites I wouldn’t miss or be as interested to know about.
Maybe Drudge could put a one-liner in if someone told them about a FR outage...
Kudos to the young one. I am sure to brought her up right.
As far I could tell, it went down pretty much right when Hillary made her first appearance of the day, looking dour and angry. I just figured people had way too much to say about that, and it overwhelmed the server! But that’s just my layman’s reaction, knowing next to nothing about servers. Does typing in the dotted quad address work in those situations? I appreciate how FR does not have ads, and cookies aren’t following me around trying to get me to buy something.
I stay on FR and FR on FB most of the day while browsing peoples posted articles. The FB site really picked up steam during the outage.
I looked on Twitter and didnt see an effective site. A twitter post even if you dont use twitter you can search the site and would cost nothing and is easy to update a wide constituency.
Yes. I just got in an argument with somebody in London I’ve been friends with for years. I told him I unfollowed him. I assume I’ll be blocked by him but you know what? It’ll save me reading his foolish anti-Trump crap. He has so much to offer and yet all his posts are fake news anti Trump crap.
OMG! Please accept my condolences...
I was being blunt for a purpose. I am deeply grateful to Jim and all he has done. I have actually been on FB since 95 I believe.

With all due respect, when you title a thread with words like “pissed,” being blunt for whatever purpose, IMHO it is not a particularly positive or effective way to start off a thread. Perhaps better choices might have been “disappointed,” “devastated” or “going through withdrawl” (all accurate adjectives of the feelings of many of us ;)
Regarding Facebook, Many of us went to Facebook to find out the scoop. It was a good source for updates. I just lurked FB FR page; did not join as I figure they had enough to contend with. There were updates and news articles posted there—Thanks to all who did.
BTW, Facebook launched on February 4, 2004, and was limited to a small number of colleges/universities; that number grew over time. I believe it was invite only for a short period, and then in 2006 it became open to anyone over 13.
I’m not angry. Stuff happens. Rarely is FR interrupted.
My most humble condolences...
