I keep hearing the song “One is the loneliest number”. Hoping obimbo has it running around in his peabrain. I can’t wait for that number. Better yet, I expect to wake up bright and early on Friday to ZERO, as in the biggest ZERO will be history!!!!

Tanya is Russian. She’s a very nice lady with a family, including two sons.

She earned a Ph.D. In Mathematics from Moscow State University. She was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT. She has worked at Tel-Aviv University, Princeton, [the former] Bell Labs in NJ, MIT, & a few companies. Her resumé & links to her published papers are posted on her Number Gossip site (click on her name at the top of the landing page).

She has been a regular presenter at G4G in Atlanta every two years for at least the last five Gatherings, of which more later.

I have spoken with her briefly. The Khovanova family tree is apparently unrelated to the Kavanov / Kavanau family tree. This is important. Look up Dr. Lawrence Kavanau.

Number Gossip is a very small part of her professional work, but it’s an excellent example of Russian – or any other nationality’s – “hacking” in the positive sense of that word: brilliant algorithmic thinking manifested in computer code.

Not all Russians are our enemies.

I'm glib sometimes but I have a great respect for the Russian people, especially those who endured and resisted years of Soviet oppression.

And Tanya is not only beautiful but brilliant, as is apparently her family.

Don't know if I'll get back to visit Russia again, but my visit there in 1993 was quite interesting.
