FULL TITLE: White teacher is suspended for calling black suspects in Facebook Live torture video 'Obama's children' and railing against Muslims on Twitter
A high school teacher from West Virginia has been suspended with pay over a litany of racially charged and anti-Muslim tweets, including some posts targeting President Barack Obama.
Mary Durstein, a social studies teacher at Huntington High School, was asked to leave the campus on Monday after district officials in Cabell County were made aware of her vitriolic social media posts and comments dating back to at least 2015.
Posting under the user name 'pigpen63,' Durstein recently weighed in on a widely covered incident out of Chicago in which four black youths allegedly tortured a special-needs teenager and broadcast the attack on Facebook Live.
The suspects, Jordan Hill, 18; Tesfaye Cooper, 18; and sisters Brittany, 18, and Tanisha Covington, 24, were ultimately arrested on hate crime charges.
Someone posted a photo of the four suspects with the caption: 'Imagine if these were 4 white people torturing a special need black kid!'

The only reason Mary Durstein was attacked by leftist neo-commie school officials is because so-called conservatives won’t get off their worthless butts and storm the schoolboard meeting with 1,000 patriots, demanding that Mary Durstein be let alone or every schoolboard member will be thrown out of office via a recall election within 24 hours.
I’m so tired of leftists controlling schools when it’s abundantly clear that conservatives outnumber leftists in a state like West Virginia.

He wasn’t making a slam on an ethnic group, he was making a slam on Obama, who famously said “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids.”
People are fed up with Obama and others defending criminal behavior.
Also she’s in Cabell County. You know the same county that last summer their 911 system crashed in a 4 hour period due to heroin overdoses? Yes that county. This county has had a drug problem for decades and when the 4 hour crash happened they acted like they just found out about it. Business been complaining about the methodone clinics nearby and the lines that would start at like 6 am and people would come out dazed. They had to move that clinic out to US Route 60 because of that fiasco. Also years ago 4 teens shot on prom night because one owed a drug debt, the other three just happened to be in wrong place at wrong time.
The mayor of Huntington recently voted to give himself a raise and we are like “why”? What have these people done to deserve it? The place is a cesspool. If it was not for Marshall University and two hospitals the place would be a ghost town.
Now this. I dare ask “what next”? with this county it will happen.

The “Obama’s children” remark comes from Obama making that statement that Trayvon Martin died “because racism” and that if he’d had a son, it would have looked like Trayvon. To claim sympathy for the victims of racism (real or alleged) with that maudlin “my son” speech, and to ignore that Blacks can also be the perpetrators of racist violence is disingenuous.
I agree one must be careful when posting under one’s own name, but when using a handle on Twitter or Reddit, it should fall under free speech rules. Because it’s not as if you are representing your school district; you’re using a handle. We are dangerously close to decreeing that if you have unpopular views, you are NEVER allowed to discuss them with anyone except in a whisper, behind closed doors.
I agree with you on free speech. When I was a die hard liberal I thought conservatives were against free speech........ha, I now know it’s the exact opposite.
But, it seems to me that her stupidity could cost the district many lawsuits. Because she teaches different ethnicities, races, religions, etc she has an obligation to keep certain thoughts to herself. She seems really clueless. I do believe that when you are a K-12 teacher you do have to rise to certain standards. I am absolutely not a prude, but I am a realist & I have bills to pay & I love my kids. In this day & age the smallest thing can be turned into a career killer. Is it fair? No, but that is the world we live in. And I hate that it’s this way.
And you are sadly correct......free speech is under direct attack.
I agree with you - the problem is that Obama started it himself when he said that if he had a son,Trayvon Martin could have been him (slight paraphrase, but close enough).
