They aren't, if you click through, and you are in the US.
According to the first tweet's permalink, it was tweeted at 2017-01-05 19:24:34.691 EST, which is after midnight GMT.
Notice that the tweets in the article are real embedded tweets, not screenshots of Twitter. Embedded tweets rely on Twitter-supplied JavaScript to localize the tweet content. If you catch the page before the JavaScript has a chance to run, you will see January 6, because that's the GMT date included in the "preview" (i.e, unlocalized) HTML.
FR does something similar. When you first load a page, all the post times are in PST. But then a little JavaScript function (NG_Localize) runs and changes them all to your computer's timezone and time format.
