Forensic testing of rivets from the bow plats indicate that they were substandard and not up to specs, so somebody was cheating the company. There were many things that added up to a disaster.................

Excellent point. In every man made disaster it's usually not one thing. There is a chain of mistakes, any one of which if removed would have prevented the disaster from taking place. The Titanic disaster is a great example of this principle.

Lots of steel back then was substandard. I remember reading that when building the Brooklyn Bridge (or was it Washington bridge) one of the very large cables broke as it was not up to required standards.
