Instead, the prevailing attitude is chabuduo, or ‘close enough’. It’s a phrase you’ll hear with grating regularity, one that speaks to a job 70 per cent done, a plan sketched out but never completed, a gauge unchecked or a socket put in the wrong size. Chabuduo is the corrosive opposite of the impulse towards craftmanship, the desire, as the sociologist Richard Sennett writes in The Craftsman (2008), ‘to reject muddling through, to reject the job just good enough’. Chabuduo implies that to put any more time or effort into a piece of work would be the act of a fool. China is the land of the cut corner, of ‘good enough for government work’.

President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry, easily the most shabby duo ever to run U.S. foreign policy, employed chabuduo in their Iran Deal, which furthers the notion that Iran will be prevented from becoming a nuclear power. It is a notion believed only by Obama and Kerry.

happy new year. We were gifted with a bottle of Trump wine for Christmas, by xshub’s BIL, which we will drink on 1/20. Also, Sean Hannity interviewed Julian Assange, so I guess that will constitute chabuduo as proof of life for the alt-right who have been sure he was murdered.

Chabuduo it is for Hillary’s brand
She won the popular vote in liberal land
Yet PEOTUS is still Trump
Liberal tears did they pump
And fires of discontent they have fanned.

Back in the day, I had a gorgeous vintage Gibson SG Custom Guitar, that everybody LOVED, until one tried to tune it.

“Close enough for Rock” became a motto.

Guitar is long gone. Sold to pay the rent.

Gord is officially 19 mo now and he is testing boundaries. He got a Thomas the Tank engine play table for Christmas which he has decided he needs to be up ON and seated playing with the trains. Yesterday, at our house, he was playing with trains on our coffee table and decided he needed to mount and sit on that as well...this story scares the crap out of me.

So, if a fat government employee (hard to call all of them “workers”) is assigned to a loquacious three-member team, is she a chatabuttrio?

I couldn’t watch it. Reading about it was enough. I can’t understand how that happens, unless people load the top drawers with heavier stuff. I have always put the heaviest items in the bottom drawers.

he wasn’t hurt, but yes, scary. The boys pulled the drawers out and CLIMBED on them, that’s how it tipped.

I was out on New Year’s Eve at a party. Our friends that we sit in church with each week. B is in dire need of prayer, he needs a kidney transplant as his kidney which he got at age 16 is failing. He has twin 9yo daughters. Was in and out of the hospital throughout December. On two transplant lists. His parents were there and his sister and boyfriend. His mother started in on the electrical company hack, and I corrected her saying it was not, in fact, hacked. Just stuff on a laptop that is not connected. She then said she couldn’t believe Trump was elected and what happened to tank Hillary. I said you couldn’t possibly have voted for Hillary? With all her sins? The boyfriend piped up that “I didn’t vote for her!” The mother then says Trump is such a disaster. I said YOU need to give him a chance, she says but he’s not a nice person. I said we ran “nice” in the last two elections and lost, so they ran a brash brazen NYer who cleaned the Dem’s clock. I told her he’s a builder, watch him build America up again, as we have a horrid economy and our foreign policy has been a disaster. Her husband was about to pipe in, but decided to wisely acknowledge that we needed change. The boyfriend agreed, we need to give Trump a chance. Wow, were my eyes opened. I was unafraid and bold in defending Trump. Didn’t realize I would react like that.

I had a second party to attend, so I headed across town. The female police chief was there and after midnight they decided to take off and dragged me along. We went up on my hill to my neighbor/friend’s house. They dragged a stuffed Santa and a lot of empty beer bottles. They hung the Santa around the lamp post and strewed the empties about his feet. Then I suggested they didn’t have a pic, so the chief stands there getting one, so I snapped her at the scene of the prank taking a pic. What a weird night.

Had a nice time, but strange night. Who knew my Church pew mates voted Hillary....or that I would be out prowling the street with the police chief pranking a friend.

we went to Paula’s for NYs eve, her older sister was there. Had not seen her in probably 30 years, since Paula’s wedding. She said she knew from Paula that I was a conservative Catholic and we talked briefly in private, bc it was a mixed political crowd. She told me that Paula in the end voted for Trump. I said I am so happy you told me, I would never ask her, but that makes me feel better. paula is a gyn and while Catholic is not as virulently antiabortion as I am [she worked in public health services in inner city Philly to repay her national health scholarship], so I just wasn’t sure. that made my night. I will still never ask Paula, she either voted for him or just told her sister so.
