Scientists believe a massive object that could change our understanding of history is hidden beneath the Antarctic ice.
The huge and mysterious “anomaly” is thought to be lurking beneath the frozen wastes of an area called Wilkes Land. The area is 151 miles across and has a minimum depth of about 2,700 feet.
Some researchers believe it is the remains of a truly massive asteroid more than twice the size of the Chicxulub space rock that wiped out the dinosaurs.
If this explanation is true, it could mean this killer asteroid caused the Permian-Triassic extinction event, which killed 96 percent of Earth’s sea creatures and up to 70 percent of the vertebrate organisms living on land.
However, the wilder minds of the internet have come up with their own theories, with some conspiracy theorists claiming it could be a massive UFO base or a portal to a mysterious underworld called the Hollow Earth.

I started having flashbacks right after I read this.

We know there is no such thing as a hollow world or aliens,or remnant Nazis who made numerous trips in renegade subs from Germany and else ware with gold bullion and every thing they would need to start over. And then made friends with aliens.
Just ask Admiral Byrd.He led a huge fleet to explore the area. He did come back early and most of the fleet destroyed but I bet it was just bad weather, probably global warming.
I forgot,you cant ask the Admiral. He was thrown out of a window for what he knew.

I keep waiting for The Thing and War/Worlds to come out on Blu-ray, but so far no luck. I doubt that it would really be an improvement, but they remastered War/Worlds for DVD and it helped (you can really see the strings holding the Martian ship up).

Funny you should mention that. If it really was an asteroid 151 miles across and it hit the south pole during a previous period when it was covered with ice, the energy released would have melted all that ice and thrown it into the atmosphere. First flooding the Earth, raising sea levels 600 feet, and then causing a new ice age by increasing the albedo of the planet with cloud cover.
I think a significant asteroid strike on Antarctica today is much more likely to raise sea levels than globull warming is.
Have you ever noticed there is not a female in that movie whatsoever?
