Environmental and public policy groups in New York are calling for a state constitutional amendment that would guarantee residents a right to clean air and water.
Environmental Advocates of New York and EffectiveNY are promoting the proposed amendment with online video ads Thursday featuring children from Hoosick Falls, where water wells have been contaminated by an industrial chemical.
You shouldnt have to fight for clean water, says 15-year-old Mikayla Baker, a Hoosick Falls ninth-grader featured in one of the two videos.
The groups say a constitutional amendment would give residents more power to hold state lawmakers and regulators accountable for ensuring a healthy environment.

What is the carbon footprint of providing clean water??
Just making the point that these enviro extremists can take things too far. Water filtration plants use electricity powered by coal fired power plants. Doesn’t that inconvenient truth offend the sensibilities of liberals who push this sort of legislation????
It is child abuse and unconstitutional to indoctrinate school children in the groundless religion.
Demanding that government enslave them. And everyone else.
What could go wrong?
We really shouldn’t have to treat this lunatic nonsense as though it were a legitimate proposal.
Who defines what constitutes “clean” air and water?
“says 15-year-old”
Indoctrinated by leftist teachers.
What could we expect from poor Mikayla ... her parent(s?) can't even spell.
Carbon if i recall is a purifier- (think charcoal filters’) so shouldn’t we be creatign more CO2 to ‘clean the waters’ since it’s apparently now a ‘constitutional right’ to have clean water? (Not sure how clean water is a ‘constitutional right’?)
No transporting raw materials or products on the Great Lakes? Buh bye coal and steel industries.
No swimming or boating? Buh bye tourism.
No agricultural run off?
No discharge of treated waste water?
It looks like fulfillment of Agenda 21 to me, bonus: “Iib elites” get to pick winners and losers, set fines, sell resources and keep the profits.
And in other news some people want an constitutional amendment to get a shot of leg once a week dreamers never sleep.
The filthiest polluted scab on the state is NY City.
Just trying to beat California to the punch?
You got that right. Albany is right up there too.
NYC is by far the most concentrated area of pollution in the state and maybe the country.
