Kyle's willingness to help those in need was used to place an adversary near him.

That adversary used some social engineering to get to a good place for the work and accomplished his mission.

Not brain surgery.

I'm a bit ticked by your comment. Veterans suffering from PTSD are often COUNSELED BY VA MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AFFILIATED WITH THE GOVERNMENT. Chris Kyle's murderer was the IDEAL mentally fragile subject for such a 'mind control' plot.
