Sounds really good. Do you know how it got the name?
Hope y’all enjoy.
Rumor is, some journalist in Chicago (guess there used to be some) randomly-attached the name Watergate and it stuck.
So.
Here we are. It ain’t salad to me but that’s just me.
From what I remember it was the house dessert at the Watergate Hotel and became a national favorite about the time Tricky Dick resigned.
I remember seeing it everywhere.
Every restaurant.
Every deli.
Every office or work party.
Every house in the whole damned country.
You couldn’t get away from the stuff.
As for me, it’s return is as welcome as the return of bell bottom jeans.
Other words, NOT WELCOME.

My Mom’s old recipe card says “Watergate Salad- It’s a Cover-up”
Cause all the stuff s covered up by the Whipped Topping.
BTW, the little girl next door to me is special needs- disabled due to a stroke as a toddler. Limited use of her right hand and arm. Mentally, about nine.
This is a dessert she can make. I usually keep the ingredients on hand as when her family has a special occasion, she likes to be able to contribute something special to the festivities.
