From what I remember it was the house dessert at the Watergate Hotel and became a national favorite about the time Tricky Dick resigned.

I remember seeing it everywhere.
Every restaurant.
Every deli.
Every office or work party.
Every house in the whole damned country.
You couldn’t get away from the stuff.

As for me, it’s return is as welcome as the return of bell bottom jeans.
Other words, NOT WELCOME.

Do you remember "Watergate Whiskey"? A fifth costs maybe $7, and the empty was selling for $9?

The legitimate bums in DC must have been in heaven.
