I divide liberals up into three groups. I thought this effeminate turd was in the first third (described below) but it is pretty clear he is in the second group. So, he is the kind of liberal I avoid like the plague.
There are roughly three types of liberals. There are a third of people on the left who run the scale from goodhearted and generally decent all the way to craven consumers of the liberal government issued lifestyle, both in government/affirmative action jobs to welfare. What they all have in common is that they don’t think anything through, and don’t bother to...their entire point of view is based on what they feel, and what they get from the government. Their emotional needs or monetary needs are supplied by the government, and that is all that is important to them. These may be your neighbors or co-workers, and you might have somewhat bearable relationships with some of them. You may be able to talk to many of them, and they will make a pretense of listening to you (and sometimes actually will). These are sometimes Democrats, Libertarians, or Republicans, but they are all liberals. Some of these we think we may be able to convert to conservatism with logic and rational thinking, and sometimes it happens, though rarely. Some of these people do become conservatives as a result of life experiences, the stereotypical liberal who has been mugged. And for many of these people, liberalism is a phase they go through while young, only to realize as they get older that they have been lied to, and they phase into conservatives. Many people have gone through that phase.
There is the middle third, and these are the most annoying and most delusional type. THIS IS THE GROUP THAT MOST OF THESE MEDIA TWITS DESCRIBED IN THE ARTICLE BELONG TO. They run the gamut from the people who are educated to a degree and have a world view that is intricately constructed, thought out, and rationalized, and they have spent a lot of time and energy getting there, all the way to the other end of that middle third who are the spittle-lipped irrational ones who would lay down their lives (or so they think) for the cause of liberalism. These are the people you see at A.N.S.W.E.R rallies and charter members of MoveOn.org. They are also the vast majority of the Democratic party and power structure. These people live in a fever swamp of liberalism, they inhabit Cambridge, MA, Ithaca, NY, Madison, WI, and Berkeley, CA. They live and breath at places like Democratic Underground and 90% of the media outlets. They have constructed huge edifices on foundations of lies over decades, and that is where they live intellectually, and man the ramparts with hot tar to repel rational thinking. I avoid these people like the plague, and have seen many of them at the various Free Republic counterdemonstration events in Washington, DC. You can fight them, but you cannot have discourse with them. THESE are the people who think they will be part of the ruling class once society becomes class-less, but when they are dragged away, they cry out in anguish “Why are you doing this to me? I support you! I believe in what you are doing! I have fought for you! Why are you dragging me away?” These are the same ones that stuck up for Stalin even after he had them thrown into the Gulag with a “Tenner”.
Then, there is the remaining third. These are the hard core, power-hungry elitists. They don’t believe the crap they spew out for consumption for a single second. They know damn well that it is all about power and wielding power. These are the ones, who in Orwell’s “1984” said “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.” They don’t believe in God except as a tool to manipulate. They don’t believe in Constitutional rights, except as a tool to put people off their guard. These are people like Saul Alinsky. Hillary Clinton. George Soros. And Barack Obama.
To sum up your (well defined) three categories of Liberal:
Useful Idiots and Those Who Find Them Useful.
