Burning the pits is not a bad idea but it will not replace anything.

It will result in less stuff being put in the landfill and that is a plus.

Nothing new about burning fruit pits. Up here in MI, those who have outside boilers find both peach and cherry pits to make nice wood substitutes.
They burn with very little smoke and you don’t have to stack ‘em.
