“Even though it feels like the smartwatch is a relatively new phenomenon, the idea of redefining utility on the wrist is more than five years old.”
How about Dick Tracy and his two-way wrist radio?
That’s the nicest steampunk diesel amphibious elephant I believe I’ve ever seen.
Well, if someone would make something decent at a reasonable price, they would sell it. Sine there are only obscenely expensive crude little toys that belong in the 1970’s, people are at least buying something semi stylish.
$269 isn’t obscene even for a traditional watch. Apple managed to define the space as far as user interface and multifunction apps, rather than just fitness and health, as well as making their wrist wearable fashionable. They’re very good at that, defining whatever space they enter to the point that competitors are reduced to selling copies at a discount. The “watch” will be no different.
Or, my own invention, the 2-way wrist kindle...
I just bought a Samsung gear s3 and paired it with my Samsung galaxy S4. It’s a seamless phone accessory. Love it!
I have a Samsung Gear S2 and it rubs my wrist bones really badly. I have skinny, bony wrists and it’s a terrible fit, and I haven’t been able to find a softer replacement strap.
I had a Moto Rose Gold smartwatch for $400. It went blank one month in and I sent it back. Motorola told me they could not fix and told me to order a new one. I tried to but they only had the silver watch. Gold color band is $25 extra and rose gold is $50 extra. I went round and round with the moto rep, even offering to get the silver if they refund the $50 extra, but no go. So I called Visa and got a full refund. I now have a Citizen Ladies Eco Drive WorldTime. The only ladies watch ever to have both a battery that never needs replacement and radio controlled settings. It always has the correct day, date, and time and I never have to set it for daylight savings.
I’ve got a men’s Eco Drive, nice watch. Only complaint I have is that the crystal scratches very easily, not a good thing, on a watch that’s not exactly entry level in price.

Wow, that must be bulky.

When a company is willing to lose a customer rather than do the right thing, it’s time to put them in the rear-view mirror.
That’s cool-looking electric guitar! Do any of the knobs go to XI on that thing? I hope so!
It’s a steam guitar.
I thought I didn't need a watch, haven't worn one for almost 20 years, and put off getting the Apple watch. Me and my wife bought a pair on Black Friday sales, getting $140 off, couldn't resist that. We're now enjoying the utility of these devices. One example in particular.
Always had a problem contacting my wife. I would call her repeatedly, but since her iPhone was buried in her purse she didn't hear it due to outside noise or whatever. Frustrating. Now, we'll text each other and we feel the tap on our wrist from the Watch. I roll my wrist towards me, read the message, and dictate a reply to Siri which is then sent. Easy, without having to pull out the iPhone, or type anything.
Main reason I got it is for the health utilities. It reminds me to stretch, walk, run and do breathing exercises and gives me reports to the iPhone. Nice.
Very nice either way!
