Yahoo's been hacked.

Posted on 12/16/2016 7:42:04 AM PST by LouAvul

They're warning Yahoo "subscribers." Subscribers are cautioned to change passwords, etc.

Could someone explain what that means? What's the benefit of having a Yahoo account? Does that mean that someone uses a Yahoo home page to log onto sensitive personal data?

I got a notice from them a few months ago and I changed my password then. Received another notice the other day about a breech. Seems to be happening regularly with them.

People with Yahoo email accounts may have had their security compromised.

This is from a breach of data in 2013. Little too late now to do much about it.

...outlook.com works fine for me. I also use one from my internet provider for more secure stuff.

Somehow I have a yahoo account from long ago perhaps to use their music service. Anyway I got some phishing emails that were bogus. The emails were not that convincing. :-)

I stopped using my yahoo email years ago - kept it open as a “throwaway” for sites that require a valid email address.

Yahoo will reward the CEO with something like $55 million when she leaves on top of the tens of millions she made while ruining Yahoo into the ground.

They news is almost all negative at the site. It is like Dead People magazine. Full of SWJ articles. Plus they cannot write a simple webpage that works. Their videos rarely seem to play correctly. The pages load slowly if you do not use ad blockers and such. A lousy website under her.

If Yahoo has been hacked, what good will it do to change your password now?

Marissa Mayer’s toilet bowel legacy as Yahoo CEO, same as her Lord and Savior Barry O’ Bummer.

So did the Russians hijack Yahoo or did the CIA do it and blame it on the Russians?

This tidbit below is buried in the Muscular writeup by Wikipedia.

Operational details:

According to the leaked document the NSA’s acquisitions directorate sends millions of records every day from internal Yahoo! and Google networks to data warehouses at the agency’s headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland. The programme operates via an access point known as DS-200B, which is outside the United States, and it relies on an unnamed telecommunications operator to provide secret access for the NSA and the GCHQ.[3]

According to a post-it style note from the presentation, the exploitation relied on the fact that (at the time at least) data was transmitted unencrypted inside Google's private cloud, with "Google Front End Servers" stripping and respectively adding back SSL from/to external connections.

According to the Washington Post: "Two engineers with close ties to Google exploded in profanity when they saw the drawing." After the information about MUSCULAR was published by the press, Google announced that it was working on deploying encrypted communication between its datacenters.[2]
