Laz's Prediction: What's Next for the Loony Left?
12/15/2016 | By Laz A. Mataz

Well, it appears no Electors are defecting from the Republican side, so Monday should be uneventful.

However, I have learned not to underestimate the divorce-from-reality, the utter INSANITY of the Loony Left. Seeing how the liberals have thrown EVERYTHING against the wall this election:

Is a quorum required? What happens if the Democrat HR members refuse to show up (flee to Canada)?

Didn’t Wisconsin Democrats pull this stunt (flee out of state)?

After that, they will do the old tie themselves together and lay down in the street to prevent him from driving to swear in location. The old “lay-in”. Of course, Trump would just helicopter over them. Turn it into a “cry-in”.

Weren’t they denying a quorum in WI? I think Trump needs a majority of those present to win. I could be wrong.

I’m expecting a remake of the Blazing Saddles scene where Cleavon Little holds himself at gunpoint.

Dems: You elect him and we’ll kill us!

Cong. P.R.: I think they mean it! Some are turning blue already!

Senator J. McC: Blue’s their political color dumbass. But we must save our Dem friends, who helped us foment war in Syria and arm ISIS. And if Trump tilts towards Russia, China might cut off the, uh, “support”, we rely on. Americans don’t want “jobs”; they want cheap automated Halloween decorations. Which brings us back to Hillary.

Cong. P.R. Hillary’s our man! Let’s push this burning EV hulk over the side and swear her in NOW!

I’ve read suggestions on a certain DUmb site, that Obama will postpone the Electoral College or the inauguration, and stay in office until he can order a re-vote. And yes, they were serious in their delusions.

Catman67, I think you meant house of Representatives, right?

Interesting question.

There's only one reason left to "blame" for the Trump victory......

Global Warming. Ask Al Gore.

Just about any public official can swear Trump in. Calvin Coolidge was sworn in by his father, a local notary public. So this gambit won’t work.

I’ve read suggestions on a certain DUmb site, that Obama will postpone the Electoral College or the inauguration, and stay in office until he can order a re-vote. And yes, they were serious in their delusions.

Actually, there is an interim step between the electors and the Senate where Obama can stop the process—Office of the Federal Register and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

The Office of the Federal Register and the National Archives process the voting records of the electors and send them to Congress. As part of the executive branch, they answer to Obama giving him the opportunity to do all manner of things from delaying to changing results. But changing results wouldn't work, you say, because the states would have a record of what they sent. Yes, but they would gin up the phony controversy anyway with the media leading the way to create even more unrest. It is what Obama does best, after all.

In any event, these are the relevant post-Electoral College vote steps prior to the Senate certifying the vote from https://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/roles.html#congress

Receipt of Certificates of Vote
Certificates of Vote should begin arriving at NARA shortly after the State meetings of the electors held on December 19, 2016. Certificates of Vote are recorded on a log sheet when received at the Archivist’s office and at the OFR. Each Certificate is checked for facial legal sufficiency, and if there are any problems with a Certificate, an OFR attorney calls the contact person in that State and the Assistant Secretary of the Senate to inform them of the problems and offer advice as to a solution. After the Certificates of Vote have been determined to be facially sufficient, the OFR makes copies of them available for public inspection and secures the originals.

Certificates of Ascertainment Transmitted to Congress
The OFR prepares cover letters for the Archivist’s signature to accompany the Certificates of Ascertainment transmitted to Congress. The OFR hand delivers the Certificates and cover letters to the Vice President’s Office in the Senate (the Vice President is the President of the Senate) and the Speaker’s Room on the House side of the Capitol and obtains a receipt. If all the Certificates of Ascertainment are received in a timely fashion, they are sent to Congress in one group. However, late arriving Certificates may also be hand delivered separately to Congress so that transmittal of the other Certificates is not delayed.

Good luck with that. First, it’s a Republican Congress. Second, many of these people (McConnell’s wife, Rodgers, the Immigration guy) are already slated for new gigs and they aren’t going to let those go; third, the states would absolutely revolt-—not because they love Trump but because this would destroy one of the few Constitutional powers they still enjoy.

You’re wrong on this ol bud.

Congress acknowledges the state elector slates, college votes in 4 days, Trump inaugurated on the 20th of Jan, reelected in 2020.

This from a friend.

The Electoral College is meeting, on Monday.

As you've probably heard, there's a group calling themselves the "Hamilton Electors" who are trying to sway at least 37 electors into voting against the popular vote, in their respective states, in order to deny Donald Trump the presidency.

At first they had hoped to sway enough votes to get Hillary Clinton elected but now they're just hoping that they can deny Donald his needed 270 electoral votes so that the group of electors can then consider "more palatable" Republicans for the position. John Kasich's name has been frequently mentioned.

While there's nothing in the Constitution that requires the electors to vote in accordance with the wishes of the voters who selected them, many states have such laws on the books. The penalty for failing to do so, however, is typically very small and is not likely to act as a deterrent.

I've been watching this pretty carefully and, even though I voted for Trump, I'm hoping that the Hamilton Electors succeed in getting 37 members to flip. Why? Because it will be fun to watch and because it won't make any difference.

Here's why:

If the Hamilton Electors succeed in denying Trump the election (regardless of whether they choose Kasich or Clinton) there will be celebrating in the streets by my liberal friends. The news media will go crazy. Doomsday will be predicted by many. Facebook will explode.

Then the Secretary of State for each state will have to certify the results before they're sent to Congress. Since Secretaries of State like to be reelected by the same people who chose the electors, it's unlikely that they'd certify the results.

But let's say they did...

It would then go to Congress, for certification on January 6, 2017.

Members of Congress like to be reelected, too, and it's highly unlikely that they would be a party to such shenanigans. If any members of Congress object to the election results then the election gets decided by them, instead.

The House of Representatives gets to choose the president and the Senate gets to choose the Vice President. Since both houses of Congress are controlled by the Republicans it is likely that they would choose Trump and Pence.

And the Democrats would have to start the grieving process, all over again, after thinking that they had succeeded for almost 3 weeks.

So I'm kind of excited about the whole spectacle-- especially since there's virtually no chance that any of it will make a difference in the outcome of the election.

I'm hoping nothing of the kind happens.

See, because I would be dead by the end of those three weeks. Wartime is wartime.

Luckily, it isn't going to happen. None of it.

After all, we never imagined they'd try any of the other stuff, right?

At this point I don’t think there is anything the Rats can do to prevent President Trump from taking office. I think they’ re first going to focus on totally disrupting and destroying the inauguration ceremonies. Then they’ll start going crazy with fake daily scandals and fake allegations of corruption. They’re already winding up to destroy Trump’s cabinet nominees requiring Senate approval.
