Another interesting thing is that both the French president Chirac and Joe Wilson at different instances (but quoted in threads here at FR, so diligent researcher could find it) prior to the invasion of Iraq warned about the terrible carnage that would ensue, and the fact that horrible weapons would be used. In fact both Chirac and Wilson appeared to believe that Saddam Hussein would be able to unleash WMD on the US and allied forces. And this despite the fact that they in other venues argued that there was no reason to unseat Saddam and that he did not have any WMD:s.

Then, when a journalist asked "How the hell did Joe Wilson get that job anyway?" and some member of Bush's circle opined that he probably got it because his wife worked for the CIA.... suddenly THAT was the scandal. They OUTED her! Put her life in danger!

If memory serves, Joe Wilson actually had already lied about how he got the job. Something like he had been asked to go by Bush or Cheney or some such.
