I’ve had few ELP albums in my time. Some of the music is quite good; much of it is overindulgent and ponderous.
But, no one can deny their talent. The fact that they sounded like no one else is testament to their creativity.
RIP, Mr. Lake.
“The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying.
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying
Between the iron gates of fate
The seeds of time were sown
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known.
Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.
The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.
Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying.
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying
Crying..
Crying...
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying
Crying...”
Rest in peace. :-(
Sad to see him go.
Great band!
One of the best vocalists in rock and a very underrated guitar player. RIP Greg and thanks for all the great tunes.
RIP to a great voice.
Even though it’s a protest against the over commercialization of Christmas “I Believe in Father Christmas” is one of the few Christmas songs I can listen to these days.

“Such a gifted musician.”
Absolutely. I didn’t know he was from Bournemouth. So many amazing musicians have come from the UK. King Crimson remains one of my favorites. They were incredibly inventive.
Very sorry to hear this.
R.I.P., Mr. Lake. Loved your music; you contributed to the world with your gift.

Condolences to family and friends of Greg Lake. R.I.P., sir.

King Crimson, how wayback can you get.
Wow. I saw ELP in their heyday, touring behind the release of the Brain Salad Surgery LP. Quite a show to see as a teenager. In recent years, I’d seen Greg play as one of Ringo Starr’s All-Starrs, which is always a fun show, and he still had the pipes. He’d typically belt out Lucky Man and a few others on his part of the show.
RIP
The comments at that video are a grand testament to a good man.
If you ever see Greg Lake do go and shake his hand. He'll talk to anyone if he has the time. A genuine, down to earth, decent guy. We approached him after a show and he spent a good hour talking to us. No pretension, no ego, just class. He even introduced us to one of his crew as his dear friends. And we felt like we were. Great time!

In 2009 when we were filming “Rockin’ the Wall” I asked Lake if he wanted to be in the film. For whatever reason, he declined.
“Take a Pebble” is my favorite. Rest in Peace, Greg, and thank you for making the most of your God-given talent. Prayers for your loved ones.
Perhaps my favorite band. I saw them in the round on a revolving stage in a small arena. arguably the best concert I ever attended, not the most fun, but three consummate technicians plying their craft flawlessly. Carl Palmer brought the house down managing a kit of maybe 50 or 60 different drums, cymbals, gongs, and the like. 69 - far to young, RIP.
