Trump has always had two things going for him, (or maybe more)
First, he always said the good illegals would be reviewed and probably we would find a way for them to stay albeit at the end of the line. At the time I wanted him to explain in more detail what this meant, but we never got a complete explanation. It did morph into something we would look at after the border was secure and the criminal element had been dealt with. That was enough for me. This puts it a couple of years from now.
Second, Trump has always been aware of the effect of having to drag Congress along with him. He refers to this process as negotiation. This too makes sense. When the time comes, Congress and Trump will have to determine exactly what being good enough to stay (permanent residence) means. We know it does not confer voting rights or welfare rights, but there is something there for a little give and take. There is no one better at this than Trump.
There is no line in this country for illegal aliens. They must return home to get in line like everybody else.
If we create a new line for people to get in inside the country, we will end up with amnesty for all.
