Apple assembly partner Foxconn plans US expansion
Apple Insider ^ | 12/07/2016 | Roger Fingas

Posted on 12/07/2016 6:45:40 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Apple's primary assembly partner, Foxconn, will soon invest in expanding its U.S. operations, the latter company said on Wednesday, apparently following in the steps of a similar SoftBank announcement.

"While the scope of the potential investment has not been determined, we will announce the details of any plans following the completion of direct discussions between our leadership and the relevant U.S. officials," Foxconn explained in a statement to Bloomberg. "Those plans would be made based on mutually-agreed terms."

Although Foxconn didn't provide specifics, a document held up by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son after meeting with U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump allegedly included the words "Foxconn," "$7 billion," and "50,000 new jobs." SoftBank is investing $50 billion in the U.S. and aiming to create 50,000 jobs.

It's unclear if Trump was involved in negotiating a Foxconn deal, but during his presidential campaign he openly criticized Apple and claimed he would make the company move production back to the U.S. Foxconn is based out of Taiwan and runs most of its factories in China. Only one Apple product —the Mac Pro —is assembled in the U.S., and that computer has gone three years without an upgrade.

Establishing serious production in the U.S. would be a difficult prospect for Foxconn. Aside from the fact that most parts suppliers are overseas, complicating logistics, operating in the U.S. is substantially more expensive because of higher safety, labor, and environmental standards. The decline of American manufacturing would also mean having to train many workers. The company could potentially get around some of these problems if it leans heavily on robots.

Agree. It is getting old. The primaries were over in April/May.

That is a start. And it’s more than the last four presidents ever did

RE: I think Cruz is just shorthand for #nevertrump.

Ted Cruz was not a #NeverTrumper.

It is simple.

A certain collection of posters race around this site for thread to thread whining, in the most insulting ignorant terms, about every single thing Trump does daily. They posture as if it is “principal” that motivated them.

It is not. It is childish petulance Cruz lost. They have yet to made a rational, politically principled point in opposition to Trump. Instead they are merely motivated by an infantile need to carp and whine about everything Trump does because it is Trump who is doing it and not Cruz.

For example “god-emperor” and utterly infantile statement thrown at Trump by these butt hurt cry babies.

Guess what. Take shots, people are going to shoot back.

This has been the problem for the Cruzites all along. They are a bunch of cyberbully clowns who want to take shots at people then scream and whine when people shoot back at them.

If they object to being burned, they can stop playing with matches and start making rational, intelligent points for a change.

a tax cut from 35% to 15% is more like a 57% reduction in tax rate, imo.

A-MEN!!! Well said!!!

The Cruzbots were the ones that started acting like uncaged animals when St. Rafael had that >>HUGE<< one delegate win in Iowa. This race “was over”. Look at the bilge that was posted by them. Animalistic.

Some of us will not forget.

The Cruz issue goes at least to the convention this summer.

I would grant them a pass but they want to continue the war.

If they want to try making fact based rational posts, instead of their usual collection of invective and bile, I will engage them on a rational adult level.

The “True Conservatives” are exactly like the Leftists in their inability to debate beyond the elementary school style personal attack based tactics.

I have never been impressed by the Left use of these tactics.

I am even less impressed when people on the Right try to adopt these same infantile debate tactics.

“I would grant them a pass...”

You’re much more “turn the other cheek” then I am. I had a couple try to pick up after November 8 - like nothing happened.

Oh really? Months and months spent spewing total garbage, now they want on the winning team?

Not with me. I VERY CLEARLY told them to FOAD.

Only thing that makes me nervous is that (SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son) is getting his finance money from Saudi.

This has been the problem for the Cruzites all along. They are a bunch of cyberbully clowns who want to take shots at people then scream and whine when people shoot back at them.

80% of those of us who supported Cruz in the primaries happily changed trains when Cruz suspended his campaign. Using the term Cruzite implies all of us who backed Cruz in the primaries. In fact, the most petulant NeverTrumpers include John Ellis Bush, Rubio, Romney, Carson AND Cruz supporters. Cruz was a vehicle that some of them used for a while, and Cruz invited it, and has paid the price. Things happen in all directions in the heat of a campaign.

In the meantime, Trump has done MUCH to allay my suspicions. His priorities have so far been correct, and he has made appointments that tell people like me that we have more than a place at the table. I also appreciate the aggressive posture that keeps all opponents off-balance.

While I don't like the vulgarization of the office, that started with Clinton talking about his underwear and his profanation of the Oval Office, and Obama in all too many ways. It's a reality that Trump is well-suited for in a vulgar time.

You know I have defended Trump (without violating my own beliefs) and MANY former Cruzers have done the same.

Cruz was a slow-Trumper, not a NeverTrumper. Cruz was WRONG to assign any responsibility on Trump for the threats of violence in Chicago. He also should have blasted bomb-throwing Bushie Liz Mairs' attacks on Melania. Trump's response against Heidi ensured that a full-throated endorsement would not come quickly. It got a bit too personal; it happens in such a campaign, and scorched-earth was needed against Mrs. Clinton.

The NeverTrumpers are just Establishment Republicans and RINOs. The 80% of us who switched to Trump when the time came went in full-bore. Those who remain are more anti-Trump than pro-Cruz.

I believe it is a reference to the “Dune” series of books by Frank Herbert. Some other FRiends more familiar with the series may need to elaborate.

“How in the heck does Trump have the time to be working all these deals, picking his cabinet and continuing his “Thank You” tour??? “

Fun Facts about Trump:

- He doesn’t drink alcohol, at all.

- He only sleeps four hours a night, for his whole adult life.

- He was raised attending Norman Vincent Peale’s Church, regularly getting sermons on the power of positive thinking.

All these articles always put in somewhere about Oh this will be so hard, can’t be done, suppliers aren’t here, blah blah blah. That’s what Trump and America want to fix, It can be done, nothing is too hard. America has gotten soft and quit striving for the best and making the impossible, possible.

“Only thing that makes me nervous is that (SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son) is getting his finance money from Saudi.”

As long as the money goes into productive enterprise, rather than corrupting public officials, it is fine. New capital is new capital.

The more they have invested here, the more they have to lose, or can be confiscated. It was not so long ago that their surrogates were threatening to divest of US investments, if the Sponsors of Terrorism Bill passed the Congress (which it did).

The Saudis, like everyone else in the world, want in on the investment opportunity, if there is going to be a lower-tax, less-regulation boom in the American economy.

And the alt-left continues its “can’t do” mantra. No wonder these putzes lost (and will CONTINUE to lose): they’re REAL platform is that everything is impossible for them because all forces are beyond their control.
