Former Vice President Al Gore touted Ivanka Trump's commitment to a climate policy "that makes sense" Monday night after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter.
It's no secret that Ivanka Trump is very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense for our country and for our world and that was certainly evident in the conversation that I had with her," Gore told Chris Hayes on MSNBC's "All In." "I appreciate the fact that she is very concerned about this."
Gore stressed that he preferred to "not give too many details" about the meeting but called it a "very intelligent exchange."
Ivanka Trump has singled out environmental regulation as her primary policy focus as an incoming first daughter, despite her father's past claims that climate change is a hoax propagated by China. Reince Priebus, the incoming White House chief of staff, in recent days said Trump's "default position" on the topic was that most of it is a bunch of bunk.
Gore described both meetings earlier Monday as "very productive" and "extremely interesting," according to pool reports.
"I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect, Gore told reporters. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
Despite Gore's endorsement of Ivanka Trump, the president-elect continues to consider Cabinet candidates that have views that run counter to the former vice president's.
Among Trump's top contenders to head the Department of Energy is Oklahoma oilman and Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm, who was a leading voice on energy policy in the Trump camp during the presidential campaign. Venture capitalist Robert Grady is seen as another potential energy secretary pick.
Trump has considered Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state.
I suspect that Gore asked Ivanka to come in and then once he was in, she talked her Dad into meeting with Gore. I don't think Trump initiated the meeting.
Does that make a difference? I think it does.
If I was Donald Trump, would I have met Gore? Of course not.
Would I complain if Trump does changes his position on AGW? You bet I would.
Has Trump changed his position on AGW? I don't see any evidence of it at this point.
This: “It seems that he is changing his opinion on immigration and the extent to which he will remove all illegal aliens.”
And this:”One gets the feeling that Donald Trump is not nearly so Machiavellian as he is malleable for the last person who has his ear.”
Plus this:”Even if Trump is as Machiavellian as his fans on this thread insist he is, where is the press release telling us the purpose of the meeting and restating his firm conviction that climate change is a “hoax?”
Read like they were C&P right from WaPo or the Slimes or CNN.
Progressives & never-trumpers (including the never-trumpets who claimed not to be but always wrote like one) always take Trump literally. It’s one of the many reasons Trump won.
Or at least a tweet.
Wasn’t it called Global Warming when the Christmas Float, that is Gore, expelled hot air?
I’ll wait until he is actually President and see what, if any, pro-CC policies he supports.
Trump, to the contrary, has been a Democrat, has contributed to Democrats, has been all over all issues in recent decades and has very little credibility for consistency.
Ironic that “Democrat” Donald Trump has done more to advance the conservative agenda than Ted Cruz and the entire careerist “true conservative” chattering classes have in the last 30 years. You can smear Trump all you want but facts are facts. Trump delivered. Cruz and the rest did not. Half of something from Trump will always be a better deal than all of nothing from Cruz and the rest of the GOP plantation porch conservatives.
If this results in a Trojan Global Warming Horse brought into the White House, then Trump will be gone in 4 years. And millions will regret ever supporting him.
I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Ivanka can gush about Gorebull Warming all she wants. As long as there is no tax to pay for her fantasies.
I hope you do, but in that event be prepared to find yourself on the outs as The Donalds new position will be the gospel for his faithful followers, who will countenance no critical analysis of him. I hope Trump will govern as his acolytes promise me he will. We shall see.
Critical analysis of second hand hot air? Laughable. You sound like a mouth breathing Trump hating presstitute.
Since even Ted Cruz has given up on that spew, have you moved on to Egg McMuffin and Glenn Beck as your last great hope for the future?
Cruzers never quit...
Trump's attitude is not the "You Lost, We Won" sort, and I am certain none of us want him to be. He will make his adversary comfortable. Rather than increase the divide, he seeks to narrow it.
This is a winning strategy.
Additionally, it is well known that Ivanka is his "second ear" and he trusts her opinion. The decision on how to proceed will be born of well rounded and varied input.
The man who is been so profligate with his tweets cannot vouchsafe us conservatives only 145 characters of assurance that capitalism will not be undermined.
nathanbedfordcruzer...
Trump won the election on half the money the Queen of the Dimwits..if he does that his first term, as well as cut BIG government in half, i will be satisfied.
The child care plan is a tax credit, not an entitlement. It’s in line with the original Contract with America
The usual Cruzing suspects are surfing the thread, neh? :)
“The man who is been so profligate with his tweets cannot vouchsafe us conservatives only 145 characters of assurance that capitalism will not be undermined.”
Maybe if you call Ivanka you can get a meeting with Trump so you can let him know what you want him to do. Perhaps he will make you his Twitter Czar. /s
Give them a jot or tittle, and the Cruzers come boiling out of the woodwork like rabid cockroaches... :)
What do you care what my hope for the future is? Why do not you care about whether or not Trump will remain true to his word that climate change is a "hoax" because the downside consequences of playing with Al Gore include the extinguishing of capitalism.
Why do you try to divert the question to an attack on the questioner?
The petulant child neverTrumpers are demanding that Trump answer to them. They can hold their breath and stand in line behind the MSM for that one.
He probably had psychiatric therapy after the 2000 election
to get his mind somewhat right.
