I’ve never understood their willingness to alienate half or more of their potential audience. It’s the best example of acting contrary to one’s self-interest I can think of.
Just “shut up and sing”, or act, or whatever, and watch the checks roll in.

I didn't watch the Emmy Awards show, but after reading about it -- every skit was anti-Trump/GOP/patriarchy -- I wagered that they had mooned half their audience. Lack of self-awareness leads to actions contrary to self-interest.
